I am getting into some animation where I need to have realistic characters moving around on the screen. I am considering POSER 6. I have not used POSER before, but I assume it allows you to create IK for characters and motions for them. Can such be imported and used seamlessly with TS 7.1?

I have also been looking at MOCAP files for POSER and TS 7.1. I have seen MoCap files that say compatible with 3D Studio MAX. Can such MOCAP data be used in the animation system of TS 7.1? If so, any tutorials?

I do recall seeing an add-on for earlier versions of TS that claimed to allow MOCAP. Do I need this for TS 7.1 to make all of this work?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated, and tutorials even better.

The TrueBones (Poser).BVH import TSX only works with TrueSpace versions 4,5,6.

However MagicBones Motion Capture Studio was created esspecially with TrueSpace 7 users in mind. Over 1000 pre-cleaned motion captures ready for use in TS7.1

Feel Free to visit my website for more information. http://www.truebones.com

Thanks again and Cheers

Thanks for the info. I went to your web site and am a bit confused. You have several programs on the site, but I am not sure how they are related. The TrueBones would have been my best bet, because it interacts with Poser. I have a chance to purchase a large MoCap library in BIP and BVH formats (I think I have the extensions correct), and want to see if any of your programs will allow me to use them with TS 7.1. What about Poser

compatibility?

The program you suggested in your email looks like a library of motions. Can I add these other ones to it, or convert them somehow into TS 7.1 friendly format?

Thanks for any further clarification.

Hi Scott,

I can convert your .BVH into TrueSpace usable .cob skeletons.

How many motions are in the library you are considering to buy?

There are 5000 motions in the library. That is why I was looking for a generic solution and not a one-time conversion. I don't have an overall plan for the animations as of yet, but I will need starting, stopping, walking, turning, head turning while walking and standing, kneeling, squatting, picking up objects, pointing objects at other locations, and, I am sure, several others. That is why I wanted a more substantial library. Your other program looked like it fit the bill, but you state is it not compatible with TS 6.6.

Any suggestions on what combination of your or Caligari's programs will do the trick would be helpful.

Thanks,

Scott

You could use TrueSpace 4,5 or 6 to import the Poser exported .BVH into TrueSpace.

Then use those saved librarys in Ts7.1 or GameSpace.

Make sure you get a sample file from the company first. All .BVH is not created equal. Many different factors are involved.

Also, I would find out if the motion data is pre-cleaned. It takes a lot of time and effort to pre-clean and prepare motion capture ready for use in your app.
5000 motions is a Huge amount! It took about 2 years for me to create and prepare about 1100 motions to be usable in TrueSpace and GameSpace. The good thing is that the motion I created is blendable, editable and retargatble to other character sizes, and works with other character animation programs like FragMosoft and MilkShape.(cross platform,)

This makes for a very good workflow. Remember, Mocap is your friend!

Thanks again and Cheers
P.S. have you tried some of the free motions that I have posted around this site in TS7?
