Is it wise to subdivide an object after it is rigged with a skeleton?

example: I have an object that is low poly count. I rigged it up because it is easier to see the placement of the bones. Can I subdivide the object later because I want smoother appearance?

I do the animating with SDS disabled. I then add it right before rendering. Exceptions would be where I need to see how the subdivided mesh interacts with other objects (a hand holding an object, for instance) or if I'm animating a face with bones.

This is in MotionStudio but I would say the same thing can be done with native bones / Puppeteer.

Cool! Thanks Frank! I was hoping I wasn't destined to the land of boxy, low poly models. :)

I imported a Poser model, rigged it up and boy was it hard! I couldn't even see the bones or the joints. I used eyezoom so much that I forgot what the model looked like. :D

In cases like that you may want to play with the poly color settings. Maybe giving it a color that contrasts from the bone color would help.
