1. How can the particles in tS be tinted/painted? Or is it better to use lighting?

For instance, I want to create shards of metal from an exploding machine and I want the shards the same color as the machine. How would I go about doing this?

If the particles are standard default ones then just paint the emittor.

If you have used a picked object for the particles then paint the object that was picked - this can be done even after the particles have been created.

So, I can paint the emitter like with a UVmap?

or?

Also, I want to make some flames like you see in the follow short movie. It's just a clipped out part of the character with the hand rolling a ball instead of the real prop. Anyway, the gray area is where I would like to see flames. I used a mask for the flames and obscured the real background.

Where I have the gray masking around the balls is where I want flames. Can I do this in tS?

Ugh, just tried the tS66 native particles for fire. It took five minutes to go through just 100 frames of a very simple 2 sphere animation.

But did it look good? The end might just justify the means. Maybe you could upload a sample and save 5 minutes of someone else's life:p .

It looked okay, it was just a blob rolling around simulating fire action. The problem was, I had made a small 400 frame animation and plugged the fire in the first part of the KFE to see how it would work. It took 5 minutes for the fire particles to run through the first 100 frames! I think I will try some of the plug-ins available instead of using tS native particles. Some of the tS particle types seem okay for use though.
