Hey guys, got a noob 6.6 question for you.

I'm trying to get a rounded smooth transition between the flat side of this fan case and the recessed hole edges. I tried scaling the inner edge, moving it around, etc. but it's starting to occur to me that the fillet tool may not be the best way to do what I want.

Suggestions?

Also a piggyback ?. Is there a way to save a perspective view so that if I switch between perspective and 4-up views, the perspective view stays where I put it instead of going back to the default position.

TIA

Thanks, Stan - i'll look for that.

Meanwhile I think I can fix the fan if I use NURBS instead. Almost there.

Well I wound up drawing a curve, using the lathe tool, moving some points, and deleting some faces. This looks a bit better.

If you can locate it, 'Pview2cam' is a great plugin.
It creates a camera from any perspective view.
Why this function isn't built in to tS I don't know.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll see if I can hunt that down.

If you can't find it, you could always look at http://www.blackknightproductions.com/ there is a tool called viewTool which does the same thing but I haven't tried it, it sells for $15. But I don't know what version it works with. It is included with RayPak cd that caligari sells.

I found the best one to use is view2cam from CK GameFactory. It's free and can be got here:

http://ckgamefactory.hp.infoseek.co.jp/tsxe.html

A left click sets a camera at exactly the point that you've moved the view to and right clicking the plugin lets you toggle between multiple cameras, etc.

I tried others but found that they created the camera slightly off from the view you'd set whereas view2cam sets it exactly. I use it all the time, I can't recommend it enough. Give it a go, I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Thanks for the link, as I said I hadn't used the other so I didn't know how it worked. Free sounds good to me.

What version of tS are you using it with? I just tried it in 7.01, & whilst the left click functionality seems to work ok, right-clicking it just seems to bring up an about box.

6.6, can't say anything about 7 as I didn't upgrade. It's worked with 6.6 and previous versions so it'll be a real shame if it doesn't work in newer versions, especially as, like Spacekdet says, it something that should've been built in a while ago.

Ok I loaded the view2cam plugin in TS7 and it worked fine, the position was a bit off for me but not to much.

Thanks again wicked.

Hmmm... weird. I still have 6.6 installed, & tried it in there & got the same result, right clicking just bought up the about box.

<looks at site again>

You sure you don't mean Shiten (http://ckgamefactory.hp.infoseek.co.jp/tsxe/shiten.html), instead of view2cam?

Did you get the ability to switch cameras from right clicking the plugin icon?

No, an information dialog box pops up, which also happens in 6.6

Alien..only"find camera" does that..use view2cam to create the camera..right click "find camera" to see a list of cameras..choose one..left click icon, it becomes the view [close panel , reopen to refresh the list if new cameras have been added while panel is open]

eyezoom saves view positions that can be used in another scene.[it doesn't work on a scene by scene basis].and a click and drag to zoom feature..

I am a complete muppet and am somewhat embarrassed!

I did of course mean FindCamera! (oops, sorry everyone). THAT's the one that is a joy to use and creates the camera to match the view exactly! Right click the plug to see available cameras to switch view or cick the 'create camera' button to insert a camera to exactly match your active view.

It's also free and available in the same place:

http://ckgamefactory.hp.infoseek.co.jp/tsxe.html

Apologies for any confusion I caused by my not looking in the folder properly. I'm properly emabarrassed and will go and flagellate myself as way of penance!

Glad that my error came to some good then! :-)

And, yes, Muppets are seriously cool. I love puppets and can't get enough of the Muppets. Wish they'd do another series.

That's ok Miss Witchy, we forgive you.

Thank you for your understanding! :)

FoyleR,

Another 2 ways to 'smooth' your transition are using the parametric primitives to get your curve quickly and easly. The other is to selectively smooth the faces in the curve area with a SubD function.

Thanks for the tips, chrono. I'll look into those options to see how they work. I've been making decent progress on my projects, but the only 3D work I've done before was with AutoCAD and Micrografx Simply 3D. I'm learning tS from the ground up so it's taking a while.

All tips are good tips.
