Never put your large subwoofer speaker next to your monitor. As it will turn the colors all funny and distort the picture.
Took me awhile to figure it out, as I sat the speaker next to the monitor while I was vacuuming around the computer room. Thought I had broken something in the monitor. :(
Took a simple degaussing which is part of the monitor's software to bring it back to normal. :)
Silly me! :o |

Your sub isn't magnetically shielded? Weird. Mine is, but then again with a 10" cone I'd be surprised if it wasn't. :) |

The same can happen with practically any device that works with magnetism or has a CRT. In my old flat I had my tele right above my PC screen, and got weird lines whenever the tv was running. |

Dont store your old VHS tapes or miniDV for that matter, next to any speaker of any sort. We lost some of our old UK holiday videos like that.. The fields erase (degauss) the tape.. |

That would only apply to non-shielded speakers. You can put shielded ones wherever you like, at least in terms of interfering with anything else. I have my centre speaker sitting on top of my 28" CRT TV with no probs at all. |

I think you mean shielded speakers are ok as long as you dont turn them up loud! :D
Seriously - I didnt know you could shield loudspeaker magnetic fields - I know you cant easily reduce EMF (Electromagnetic Fields) generated from electrical objects without mu-metal and other exotic metals and that stuff is really expensive.. |

I suppose that depends on what you call loud. About... 4 years ago, when I was living somewhere else, I was watching Godzilla (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120685/) on TV. Back then I just had my crappy old Aiwa pro-logic system, though I did have my sub (http://www.mordaunt-short.co.uk/summary.php?PID=17&Title=Avant+907+subwoofer) by then. My next door neighbour [on the other side of the house to my room] told me later that he'd looked outside expecting to see a helicopter hovering outside the window. :)
I don't often have it that loud, BTW. :o Nowadays, the only time I ever crank up the volume is in the afternoon [& not very often at that] when watching a DVD.

Yep, you can (http://www.dansdata.com/danletters009.htm). I'd say you'd be hard-pushed to find a set of speakers that were specifically sold as intended for either computer use or home cinema use [well, at least the front, centre & sub speakers anyway] that weren't shielded nowadays. My centre [sadly, still the 1 that came with the old Aiwa, but it's not too bad], sub, & front speakers [slightly older version of these (http://www.mordaunt-short.co.uk/summary.php?PID=15&Title=Avant+906)] are all shielded. |
