I posted this on the TSML with no response :

I am looking for the Selection Box Control on/off option in tS7.

In tS6, it is on a Control Settings panel, accessible through a R-clic on the Global Panel icon. In tS7, the R-clic on this icon is not available.

I don't want to turn off all the 3D widgets, only the Selection Box Control one...

Finally I found the solution by myself and I archive it here. It may help someday ;)

Clic on the Icon Finder to display all the old tS6 small icons.

Look for the Global Panel and R-Clic on it

Here it is !!!

Between us, that Box Control is great in low-poly modeling but in architecture scenes it is a nightmare : the control bars are ALWAYS over the other object you want to select/glue/boolean, etc...

Good find. I never liked the manipulation cage for the same reason. but the navigation widget is quite useful sometimes.

I didn't know that we could turn off individual 3D-controls. This should be an option in the preferences panel and not hidden somewhere.

Stan, it seems that your Father Christmas's sack holds a lot of treasures !

You really master the toolbars editions tips.

BTW, do you think that tS7 will finally allow us for having back a Draw Pline Polygon tool, removed since tS5 ?

You may remember that tS2-tS4 tool. It is still in tS7 but in the shape of the Draw Path tool.

All I wish is to draw a flat polygon, with the option to set the number of subdivisions between each control point.

Emmanuel..it may have a new name..you can draw regular polygons..add curve [two ways] add polyline..and all the circles, ellipses...

right click to access points

they seem like there are just nurbs tools,

but click this -> [point edt context]:icon_PE_Context: or this convert nurbs patch to polyhedron:icon_ConvertNURBSTo and the splines become polys

Stan, look at the object below. It is simply impossible to create using the nurbs tools and a conversion to polyhedron. The conversion creates subdivisions anywhere.

But if I want a polygonal curved object with 10 subdivisions in one curve, 30, 5 and 2 in others, I simply can not draw it anymore -as far as I know- using the curve tools.

I can still create such object using the Path tool, saving the Path to the Path library, delete the object used to draw the path, and clic on the path in the library. But it is way too long compared to how easy it was in tS4.3!

first image I use add polyline..

click this on main toolbars not sure where it is on your layout.. :icon_PE_Context: [or the convert nurbs one]

then you got poly...sweep .it makes the shape you want ..

Polyline is good to make a polygonal shape made of straight segments. But if you want a curve instead of an angle, and be able to adjust the tension of that curve, how do you do ?

the tools are in upper pic.. adjust the yellow handles on a curve point to adjust tension. click on any point and handles show up..

right click "draw new curve point" icon and curve options show up..if you want to see all handles check that box

Another means is to outline shape in drawpanel, extrude, cap, convert to poly. Then boolean subtract a cube that's not touching the object to remove the subdivision/triangulation. Maybe still to long compared to your tS4.3 workflow, but worth noting?

For your original question, good find. You can also text search the icon helper for "selection box" and set a hot key for it, very handy.

I agree, but you can not set the amount of subdivision you want. In other words, you can not create a polygonal curve made of, say 15 segments.

Norm suggested to use the Patch option to set the number of subdivisions but it applies to the whole object, not only one angle/curve... I hope it make sense.

I think a Shared Space would help to explain ;)

I don't believe shared space works on model tools..

to replicate your object more curve points are added..I didn't try to copy your object in the one minute I took to create the shape..
