Since I'm not familiar with the mechanics of trueSpace just yet, I want to know how to best start modeling figures.

Should each part be made separately and put in the hierarchy? Or can some parts like the body trunk be made with shoulders and just joint added.

I make some pretty rough models, still learn the tools, just need some advice on how to approach figure modeling.

Another question regarding animation. Is it better to use a path and then adjust animation in the keyframe editor or should I not use paths and adjust using segment adjustment?

Sorry, these are basic questions I know. All my experience is in 2D animation.

Your approach would depend on what your final product should look like.

We would know better how to help if we knew a little bit more about what the final product was to be.

Thanks for answering.

I watched some very detailed videos from a Maya tutorial course and it was quite helpful. It gave me an idea of what to do and how to approach the subject.

The rest I suppose is getting hands on experience and trying till I stub my toe on something I can't decipher.

When that happens I'll return here. Thanks again. :o

I personally have never used the paths tool in an animation, nor have I adjusted paths after the object was animated. I just move to the given keyframe, adjust the object, and re-key. That's not to say that you shouldn't use paths, but just that it's not necessary.

Guess it depends on your preference.

I use paths all the time, it allows me to move my character and its animation about in a scene.

Lets say I have a walkcycle that I would like to move 1 grid to the left.
I click path tool :icon_Path: and then C on my keyboard shortcut for move. :icon_PE_move:
Then move the character anywhere you want in the scene.

Then if I want to move the character up or down, I right click and drag...

Hope that helps!
