APRIL / May 2009 Monthly Modeling Challenge: (This Challenge has been extended through MAY)
....'GREAT MOMENTS IN HISTORY'
Overview:
This is a challenge for any and all users to create art work inside of trueSpace of an object or scene that represents the subject for that month. This month's topic...'Great Moments in History'.
The idea, as created by Jack, is to have a challenge that is geared towards the complete 3D development cycle from concept through modeling, surfacing, lighting, rendering, and any post processing (environmental enhancement).
Basic Rules:
1) Use your own work. No pre-made purchased or free models, please. The idea is to share what you can create inside of trueSpace !:)
2) Start a Work In Progress Thread (WIP) for your submission. There is no limit as to how many separate art work WIPs you desire to create !
3) If so desired, a limit of up to 3 final images can be submitted in order to better view your models or even tell a story....However, your first posted image will be your final entry.
4) Final image submissions should be no larger than 800 x 600 in dimensions. A link to your WIP is also suggested (even though I'm sure that most people are veiwing them during your creative process;))...A WIP is a fun and entertaining place to be !!!:D
5) TrueSpace should be the primary tool. Post processing with a Paint Program to enhance lighting or environment presentation is fine. Background images are fine.
Deadline: (New Extensions):
This Month's competetion is now started APRIL 3 and will continue until Wednesday MAY 20 at midnight (whatever midnight is in your time zone).
I will post an APRIL / MAY 2009 MMC FINISHED ENTRY THREAD to place your Final Submissions on Thursday MAY 14 (6 days before Final Entries are due).
Voting will begin on Friday MAY 22 and continue through Tuesday MAY 26 (5 days).
The Winner will be posted on MAY 27
The WINNER's art work then gets the privilege of being in the MMC Winner's Gallery and also has the honor of picking a topic and hosting next month's MMC !!!

I like the Challenge subject this month.
The first idea that popped in my head was the little known historical event where the "Dutch Boy" with his finger in the dam talked a passing nudist into taking his place...
I'll think of something else...:D |

I like your idea Steinie...not sure why you don't just go with it !
Many ideas come to my mind...but I'd rather you all come up with them !:)
There are many revelations, progress, and famous stories throughout history that changed how we live or view life today. However, if you feel like you can artistically interpret how to bring new life into this world, I'm sure that everyone would agree that it is a great moment in history also !

Well, as you know, I'm only just back from holidays which means I've missed half the month already and whilst I have a habit of doing a rush job of getting an entry ready at the last minute, I just don't have enough (any!) free time on my hands at the moment. So sorry, not this month.
There's nothing to stop you taking part in your own challenge of course - I always join in but just exclude myself from the voting - where's the fun in coming up with a good subject and not joining in....? Regardless, there's usually a much lower uptake for the MMC than the SMC and 4-5 entries is pretty much the norm these days, with general partcipation seemingly on a bit of a decline. But good to see a few folks trying the MMC for the first time.
As for James, well we all wish him well for a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in action soon... |

Sorry Mr.3D, but no can do this month. Running and supporting the SMC has taken up all my spare tS time. Still, looking at the various WIP threads, looks like you've got some real crackin entries.

I finished my last MMC entry in 4 days....so I don't want to hear any excuses Breech Block and Nez...(I read somewhere support your challenges Breach) ! I did actually start on one idea (out of 3 that I wanted to do), but was having a little time of it with my textures, so being that I'm having a tired month, I decided not to over exert myself....I'm aloud to make excuses...It's my MMC !!!:D I may try it again...we'll see ?

Hi guys, I am sorry but I will have to back out of this month's contest. The past couple days we have had nothing but a crappy connection to the net and finally got fed up enough that we had called and cancelled our internet service and were going to return their garbage to them tommorow.
to tell you how bad my connection is, I have to write this in notepad and save it so that when i post it, hopefully my net will stay on long enough for this message to get through. Again I am sorry i can't participate, I hope to be back up and running with a better provider in the next couple weeks. In the time that I wrote this very small message my IP went on and off 3 times. |

OK everybody....I'm in a unique position here. James could not finish due to health issues, tatts is having to put his off because of changing internet servers, and many of you have made it clear that there is just not enough time for them to participate this month. It is for these reasons that I am seriously thinking about extending this contest till the end of May ! This would also help nigec and theuns to better create some of the images that they had in mind.
I would hope that most would agree, considering these circumstances, and support me with this decision (that I have not made yet;)) ?

Holy cr*p.. don't allow me another month at this.. I'll got a whole string of historical bikey moments I can possibly do!
But I totally agree with ye, with James been ill and Tatts internet problems its only fair to give them some time, this is an awsome topic and they both where doing an great job.
@Tatts, my internet isn't much better, I write emails in notepad too lol, hopefully next week ours will be sorted |

Mr. 3d -- Great topic. I wish I could participate. Now that I'm trying to be self employed I'm pretty busy.
My 2 cents: Generally I'd say each month's MMC get's what luck brings it. This months is different though because:
- Few could participate and more would given time.
- Some current participants could use more time.
- Too good a topic not to have more entries.
- The polls have been slipping to take time into the next month and this could be an opportunity to fix that. The ultimate slip that gets things monthly again.
So, go on schedule with a few participants is fine but if I was in the MMC I'd have no problem with the extension either as long as a large majority of those with an opinion support it. |

no probs here, but perhaps to keep it fair, nigec and me should complete our current design in the initial time lines and start another one before the next deadline so that those who join later would have the same amount of time to spend on their designs? |

I agree, if I spend another month doing the bike it would just get very silly, a massive scene, stupid render times, and something could go badly wrong.. I've already had my daughter's son pull out the power supply just after I'd redone the textures and hadn't saved :rolleyes: |
