Sorry to do some thread hijacking - been trying to get in touch with you space, but with no luck. If you could email me at v-thgrim@microsoft.com, would much appreciate it!
Then back on thread, looking forward to voting on this one!
Thanks!

Gah! And there you are amongst offers of free copies of Maxim, problems with my Ebay account, contests I have won, inheritances I am entitled, dead wealthy people from other countries with no-one left to claim their Swiss bank account other than me, etc.
I will try and convince my spam filter that you do not belong in the same category as those :) Thanks!

Congratulations to Nez for his winning entry (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=95866&postcount=15) in the Feb 09 MMC:
"Yesterday's Tomorrow Car (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=7820)"
Your prize?
Choose the next topic and set up a WIP/comment thread, a finished entry thread, and a poll when it's all done.
May you have as an enjoyable time at it as I did with this one. |

Hey. Congrats Nez! Too bad about the render woes, but I can see it would have turned into an awesome pic. |

Wow, didn't see that coming, thanks everyone. Didn't even make it on to vote over the weekend due to the procession of vomiting children, birthday parties and the like, so this was a bit of a nice surprise on returning to work this morning. Pretty good voting turn out given the short voting period.
Guess I'd better get thinking for a quick start on the next challenge. Given my poor subject selection on the SMC recently, better give it some thought...!:o Despite my render troubles on this scene, I do still hope to try and get a complete render of some sort together at some point but it might need some rethinking on the lighting... |

Many congratz on your well deserved MMC win, Nez. I must admit, that when I heard of your rendering woes, I thought there may be a chance for one us 3D mortals to sneak in. Should have known better really. :rolleyes: :D
I thought all the other entries were pretty darned good too, especially as this challenge was a bit more difficult than most what with the brief detailing a retro look. And don't worry Mr. 3D, if you continue to improve at your current rate, you'll be bagging a winner before you know it. :)
Congratz again Nez and really hope you manage to get the scene sorted out and rendered properly. If it helps any, I would be more than happy to try rendering your scene on my ninja PC. |

Congrats Nez... I voted for your model based on the first picture, not trying to imagine it in the scene - it will be nice to see it all together though. |

Ha - thanks Breech, kind words indeed, but not sure you qualify as a '3D mortal' given the number of projects you've got on the go at once - Strange Discoveries, Future Fighter, Reboot (that was you wasn't it?) and various others), not to mention that awesome phone (and your success with it on the LW challenge, not even with the final version) - plus you're a past MMC winner too.... mortal my foot... ;) I really liked your entry by the way.

Totally agree (on all counts)- I think this was an awesome subject (one of my favourites so far) and definitely agree about the other entries - it's a shame a few of the others didn't get a bit further as there were some really interesting looking WIPs started.

A kind offer - may have to look into that at some point. At the mo I'm trying to toy with alternate lighting set-ups to see if that helps - I think the shadow-casting HDRI was the main culprit, but all my materials were 'optimised' for HDRI so fiddling may take some time...
@Jamesmc - :D
@Kena - thanks! |

Ha ha - thanks, Nez. Now who's using kind words. ;)
Must admit though, I think that what you just said above may be part of the problem. The age old quantity versus quality thing. I dunno, just lately I've felt like my 3D work is being dragged in a different direction from the one I want to take. And I certainly feel the quality level is starting to suffer. The trouble is, there are some great challeng's around here. Take this month. Your MMC - endless potential there. The SMC - what another great subject, I can think of dozens of things I'd like to do for that. Then there is Kena's texture challenge - another exciting prospect. How can one resist all of that lot?
Good job I'm going away for two weeks and can't enter any of them. :D
Mmm...where's my old laptop, I wonder!

Well, its an open offer Nez. You always took time out to help me when I first joined the forum so its the least I can do in return. :) |
