Good presentation of the rules, notes on who can participate, etc., in the starter thread too. I'll bet there will be more contestants than usual this time.
I won't be able to participate since the real world is demanding my attention.

well... SHOOT! I got LOTS of ideas for this one. I just cannot do any of it. I'm spending an extra 4 hours a day doing training for work, and even the weekends are full this month!
<sigh> I bet we will get some really good ones too. |

Hey, go for it, you got loads of votes last time. Must admit I'm really tempted to enter this one too.
The problem with the MMC so far is all talk and no action! Robert and MikeJoel have a good lead but where are the other horses?
Your right there Steinie, the biggest thing I found with the MMC is the race against time. Initially, 3 weeks to complete your scene sounds like a heck of a long time, but man it flies past before you know it. |

I think the caption for Steinie's MMC entry should be shown with his picture in the voting thread. A caption is part of a cartoon. It is, "All alone General Custer held up the White Flag only to find out his Troop had pulled one last practical joke." |

I'm sorry Finis, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you. If Steinie wanted a punchline displayed, then it should either have been added to his image in post production or become the title of his work. If he wants to change either of the above then he can notify me and I'd be more than happy to edit the thread.
Why such a tough stance? Well by the same reasoning, Tahnoak could ask for the content of his note to be added above his image and Ranger0101 could ask for “Teddy was sure that he and Billy would be together...” to be added above his. Where do you draw the line.
In addition, posting all the WIP threads and images is difficult enough when you consider that some entries have no title at all other than MMC 08, some images are rendered larger than the stated entry resolution, some WIP threads don't specify which of their images are their final submission, some WIP links are not posted into the main MMC thread and some WIP threads contain little or no info and yet the competitor has not officially withdrawn from the competition. Thus, when trying to set up the Poll, I am already making quiet a few judgement calls on a wide variety of issues that may ultimately effect how an entry is perceived and I am not prepared to start adding to that. As the contest's Moderator, I must maintain a strict impartiality and therefore can not be seen (however misconceived) to curry favour with any individual contestant by providing additional comments to their image in the poll thread. Artists must take responsibility for the presentation of their work. Otherwise, that is what the WIP threads are for.
That all said, if any artist is unhappy with the way in which I have titled\posted their work then they can pm me and I will be happy to discuss their concerns. |

Good points about it being the artist's responsibility to add text to images and his ability to discuss things with you. I agree. I doubt there would have been any harm had you decided to add it but that does not absolve the artist from responsibility. It was not a big deal, only a statement of my opinion based on the nature of cartoons. You are in charge of this month's MMC, you made a decision, I respect that.

My post was not about artist's making requests. If an artist requested a caption based on "the same reasoning" the work have to be a cartoon. Subjective call perhaps. Again, I agree now with your point that artists should add any needed text to their images.
You have my sympathy about entries being troublesome due to titles, wips not posted in the thread, etc. Especially since you have made the rules very understandable and my own entry had only the MMC/Date title and is 20 pixels too tall. |

Err...just to clarify, I wasn't having a dig at you, or any other contestant for that matter. It is just that your post offered me the ideal opportunity to make people aware that running these challenges can be very, very time consuming and that everyone can help out by being just a little more thoughtful. Well gotta dash, I've now got to go draw up all the details for the next SMC. |

It was only decided in the last few hours though with a great piece of work from tahnoak chasing him all the way over the finish line for second place. :banana::banana:
A well deserved third placing goes to Mr. 3D. :banana:

Wow...first of all I would like to thank the director, and..oh wait..that is my oscar speech.. Seriously though it is always a honor to win one of these, especailly since the level of competition is getting better and better. There were alot of great entrys this time. I will try to have my topic done by the 1st. I have an idea. |
