I fell upon a site on the internet. www.abovetopsecret.com. It is singularly the funniest website on earth. It's all about conspiracies, x-files, bigfeet (bigfoot'sies), ufos and other weird stuff.

In this thread (http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread402931/pg3) we hear about an italian film of a proper bonafide (http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=YdyQu5Zx8xw) (!?) ufo.

Then there is this particular post about CGI and post processing CGI. I find it funny and thought you guys would enjoy it. It is taken completely out of context, but luckily this is no problem on ATS :jumpy: :

"This video, was claimed to have been debunked because some guy called a local TV ANONYMOUSLY and claimed to be the author of the footage, a CGI.

BUT

He never provided the native 3d model etc (for instance, look what did Barzolff provided about UFO haiti)
He claimed to be able to duplicate it in "half an hour" starting from ZERO: EVERYONE who has even a rough knowledge in CGI knows that half an hour is barely enough to decide what general shape to give to the UFO, not to mention its 3d appearance, its texture, its reflection, the environment, etcetera. Keep also in mind that this is supposed to be a CGI done in POST PROCESSING: a post processed UFO is not very easy to be created:
you have to make reflections, shadows, motion blur etc consistent with what was previously caught on tape: the guy who called the TV was a crock.
Today it would be easy to create it, at the time it was less easy because the software was at least less user friendly than today is.

The footage was examined in Hollywood by Rob and Rebecca Gordon: their take was that the object seen in the footage was an actual one: but since the footage was on VHS support, and since it was at least a seventh generation one, no one could ever be able to rule out possible modification in the framerate: the CGI was ruled out, NOT possible changes in the framerate."

Have fun

is this a Maybe a speed model challenge?

Model an animate a fake ufo video in 2hrs (minus texture and rendering time)?

have to agree with some of the youtube-ers, that thing is most likely to be remote control, it looks quite small.

I'd like to make it a challenge. However I think that texturing should be part of it.
After all - most UFO's are just a disc shaped object with some simple geometry sticking out - light bulbs or stabilizers.

I have followed the UFO scene for almost 40 years now. I have yet to see a convincing picture or film of an alien craft.

The most amusing arguments for validity is something like this: "Well this is a <senator>, <police officer>, <astronout>, <other>. Very reliable. Why would she/he lie?"
For crying out loud. The president himself has been caught lying on numerous occasions.

But yes.

I challenge you guys.

Make me a UFO in a landscape picture. Full with shadows and everything.
A full blown animation would be great.

Blur or out of focus is a must. It seems to be the way it is meant to be with UFO's. The forcefield generator does some weird stuff to cameras I'm told.

I'll post the best to AboveTopSecret.com and see what they say. Just for laughs. I'll bet you anything that even if I claim it to be fake it'll turn up later as a genuine picture and people will explain why it can't be fake.

I'll need to know where the landscape picture was taken. People might want to camp there for further sightings.

that'd be funny, to have someone arguing with you that a picture you'd faked was a real one :D
