Should have seen that coming!

As a note, in case you hadn't realised - the challenge length has typically been 2 hours in the past (for the modelling only), it was only the last one that was extended to 4 hours by Prodigy. It's fine if you want to keep it at 4 hours - probably a good idea with this subject, but you've got time to change your mind if you're quick!

NOt sure if I'll have enough time for this one as I'm going to be away for a big chunk of the duration - we'll see how things look when I get back to work after the bank holiday...

Nah... I thought 4 hours was better so that everybody can have extra time to make kewl models ;)

might also make it more suitable for the VE competition... :D

not bad jazzer1960, you should try and make it for the competition, the 1st of September is a long way off :)

Make a new thread about this in the WIP section so people can follow your progress...

the SMC does not require a WIP, just the MMC

SMC = Speed Model Challenge

MMC = Monthly Model Challenge

Well. Here's what I've got after (mark that) two hours...two hours...and a bit. Why a bit. I'll tell you, in an offtopic rant.

I've been fishing through my event viewer as to find out why my computer is freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezing at ranom places. and then stttttttttttarts again. I mean EVERYTHING. (minus when I'm rendering something. Then everything barr the render freezing (go figure)) Here are some qoutes from the event viewr. One or two of these get repeated several times.

The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block.

The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort2, did not respond within the timeout period.

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom0.

The device 'LITE-ON DVDRW SH-16A7S' (IDE\CdRomLITE-ON_DVDRW_SH-16A7S__________________WS04____\5&1bc4eff8&0&0.0.0) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.

What the hell man?!

And back on topic.
here's what I've got so far (and can I have a time extension:D)

The are two (r one) regurgetated models, and that's the cannons

Ack man Weevil that sounds like an imminent south bridge chipset failure... Unless you've got a virus or something looks like you may need a new motherboard soon. :( :( :(

Or maybe if you're lucky it could be that your Power Supply is underpowering the system... did you upgrade your video card recently?

Well. Jack, you're right, it was the power cable...strange that I got all those errors though...not everything's matching up. Last time we had something like that it was the SATA cable connecting my hard drive...go figure. So...I worked around the freeeeeeezes and and here it is...from now I'll just put everything in my hangar....I don't know the time exactly but I reckon I'm cutting it fine...

Well, I will try and lend some support and see if I can get an entry done; but I won't be able to start until next Saturday at the earliest. That said, I like the models that have been posted so far and jazzers APC looks quite promising too.

Prodigy - wehre do you find this stuff? :D

I managed to grab some time yesterday afternoon, so I'm 2 hours into my four - will probably need the whole lot as I only got the wheels and main chassis section done in that time! Got to add all the details - back to working in lunch breaks so hopefully will have something to post in a couple of days...

Lol, I misread this:

so I'm 2 hours into my four

and thought you wrote "fur" so I imagined that you where going for the sheep model that prodigy has suggested. :D

hehehe - beat you to it on that one! very unusual... usually, I come up with an idea, and someone has done my exact concept, so I have to come up with a different one. :D

As long as it doesn't drive around whilst drinking - as you mentioned, it's the driving that makes the hands wobble... could get messy...

Personally I think we should go back to the 2 hours to keep it a speed mc.

Georg

I also think the 4 hours is a bit too long - one of things I liked about the SMC was that I only really get 30-40mins to model at a time over my lunchbreaks, so I could just about find 2 hours over the space of a week to complete a challenge, as long as I didn't spend too long on the lighting and textures. Trying to find 4 hours, plus texture/lighting time is much more difficult in the timeframe, for me at least (although I've managed this time round). I could see some newcomers might find 2 hours tough if they're just getting used to stuff (and I would too if I was just starting out with Workspace and wasn't allowed to use the Model side or older versions) - maybe 3 hours would be a compromise - or 4 hours to include texture and lighting? Tough call, but I'd like to see it shorten a bit again - if I've got four hours I'll use it, which means I'll create much more geometry, which takes longer to texture, light and render....

Time...about 3 hours for the pilot...that's pre made...about ten minutes for the slug...that's premade too...which originally was a snail...which was canoe...so umm...an hour...no paint to save time and weight so I'm about even here...

So maybe I'm not onto a winner here. But you can't blame a guy for attempting to ge kudos points now can you?

Weevil - the time for texturing/painting etc isn't included in the four hour limit, so you can spend as long as you want on those if you want... (at the moment!)
