You must create a Boat of any kind under 2 hours.. if you need inspiration.. check this link.. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51W4tH54e7I)
"Let your imagination run wild" JamesMC Copyright
DEADLINE : 10th August 2008
The rules (as stolen from everyone else):
1. Create the model(s) within the 2 hours time limit.
2. You may enter as many times as you like.
3. Your entry should include a wireframe screen grab before subdivision has been applied, mainly this is so people can get an idea of how things were created and maybe learn something.
4. Include time spent, trueSpace version, render engine.
5. Post only one image per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels. Final composition is up to you.
6. Render time, lighting and texturing are not included as people with slower computers may be at a disadvantage.
7. The winner is encouraged to place a tutorial in the new Tutorium showing how they made their entry (Contact Norm). Sometimes the wireframe isn't enough.
Special extra (optional) rule - if you have chocolate visible in your render, share your material/shader settings! |

TS7.6
V-ray
Model time 20 min.
I then took 30 min getting my textures just right and a bit over an hour and a half getting the lights just right. Good thing it's the model time that counts. ;)
Title: Gravy Boat.

"Fishing Trip Gone Wrong"
Modeling/Texturing: 1 hour (would have been shorter, but I was having problems with the ground)
TS Version: 7.6
Render Engine: Whatever TS 7.6's default engine is
Not the best work I've ever done, but I figured I'd get more than one up there this time around :) |

Ts3.2
2hr (couple of min)
Of course rendered in Ts (did a little dof in Psp).
If I had more time I would have like to have a kid peeking over the edge of the "sink". |

Interesting that no-one's taken advantage of the extra time yet...
As someone who normally uses as much modelling time as available, partly down to a tendency towards overly complex/detailed models, I thought it would be interesting to challenge myself to a 'less-is-more' simpler model for a change. If I can find the time I may still try for a longer, more detailed entry too, but in the meantime, here's my 'quick' entry.
Subject: Submarine (everyone knows that submariners refer to their vessel as a 'boat' rather than a 'ship', right? At least, according to the novels I read.. :o )
Modelling time: 45mins (mostly simple swept polys with SDS)
Textures/lighting/render: 45mins (layered textures, IBL plus volumetric spotlight)
TS 5.1 still, i.e. Lightworks render. Hopefully in a few weeks might be able to submit a 7.6-based entry, perhaps for the next SMC? We'll see... |

Ok...here's mine. Modeling it took an hour and fifty minutes. I took longer than that to map and texture it (TS realtime render).
I used the same method for creating the hull as I posted in the WIP forum (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=5974&page=2). |

Not really an Earthnet boat. This is a replica of my first boat, which my grandfather made for me from his own wooden shoe. I agree it is very stereotypic for a Dutch boy, but that was the way it was, running around on wooden shoes and sticking your fingers in dikes, what a life! Modelling altogether a bit over 2hr, everything in Workspace, Vray render. the ropes were done afterwards on the render in Illustrator.

Thunderbirds Are Go
Modelled and rendered in: trueSpace 6.6
Model Time: 4 Hours
Render Time: 6 Mins
Textures: 1 Hour 45 Mins – The model itself was fairly straightforward but getting the particulate matter in the water and getting the right shader settings for the air bubbles took a bit more work.
Lighting: 2 Hours – The caustics were fairly easy, but I couldn't get trueSpace to render out the volumetric's on the lighting bar (more a problem with the Nvidia drivers I think as when the render hit the spotlight it slowed right down so the calculations were obviously taking place). So in the end I had to fake it (rather poorly). Getting the mood right for the image was also quite difficult as when the scene was well lit, it ended up looking too toy like (oddly enough :D). So, I went for a slightly more darker light setting which makes the environment look a little more foreboding; which is also more befitting an operation about to be undertaken by International Rescue.
Post 20 Mins – Just tidying up where some of the particulate matter and air bubbles clashed. |

U-Boat
Ok, this is not a serious attempt at the SMC;), but I had a weeks holiday and finally some time....it is of course a serious attempt at a pun:D
tS7.6
Modelled on Model side. Modelling time for U-boat 20-30 mins -based of course on U from text maker :)
The rest of the modeling time allowed was consumed trying to re-learn Dynawave:(
Textures about 30-40 mins fiddling using Ian Kirkley's Shader Magic shader
Rendered in Lightworks with IBL rendering about 5 mins

My first SMC . Took the full 4 hours to model, wanted to add more but just ranned out of time. Water is actual animated water shader I am working on. Used WS real time Renderer which took about a split second if that much :). This was fun.
4hr - model
2hr - Textures, shading model
2hr - Messing around with water shader :D
Render - < 1sec

Looks like I'm too late, but thought I'd post because I spent all day on this darned thing. This is the first thing I've modeled in, well, forever...
~30 minutes modeling (plus 5 hours trying to figure out NURBS...)
~10 minutes texturing and lighting
<1 minute to render (VRAY and no GI, but only because Lightworks was taking forever to render the large water plane)
