Well, I entertained a number of options of varying quality for a topic and finally plumped for my wife's favourite suggestion - so it's all her fault if you don't like it...:o

Let's see your favourite sweets, candies, cakes, half-eaten mars-bars etc! Lots of scope to have fun with the packaging if you want to do elaborate texture work - or for some simple modelling if you're pushed for time (Maltesers anyone? ;) )

Let the choclate, sugar, caramel and other creative juices flow...

"Let your imagination run wild" JamesMC Copyright

DEADLINE : 11.59 pm GMT Friday 18th July 2008

The rules (as stolen from everyone else):

1. Create the model(s) within the 2 hours time limit.

2. You may enter as many times as you like.

3. Your entry should include a wireframe screen grab before subdivision has been applied, mainly this is so people can get an idea of how things were created and maybe learn something.

4. Include time spent, trueSpace version, render engine.

5. Post only one image per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels. Final composition is up to you.

6. Render time, lighting and texturing are not included as people with slower computers may be at a disadvantage.

7. The winner is encouraged to place a tutorial in the new Tutorium showing how they made their entry (Contact Norm). Sometimes the wireframe isn't enough.

Special extra (optional) rule - if you have chocolate visible in your render, share your material/shader settings!

Just to get things rolling, here's a very quick effort to prove it could be easy if you want it to be;

TS5.1

Total time, including textures, lighting, rendering and post-process - 1 and a half hours....

Obvioulsy basic modelling, but I won't be up for the vote anyway! Only really did it as an excuse to try using ZRended to generate 2 depth masks this time, so I could give a bit of foreground blur as well as background.. could probably do with further experimentation, but worked reasonably well. (If you don't know what I'm on about, see the comments thread for SMC#31...)

Ok what the hey... This can be a lot better than it is; I've always wanted to make something like this...

It's called..

Before CandyMaps

What's a candy map? Well, when you open a box of chocolates, under the lid, there is a 'map' indicating which ones are strawberry, caramel, etc. But, before those came along, the only way to tell what flavor a chocolate was, was to stick your finger in it to see the color. So all the chocolates would be smushed and nasty lookin. :D Though I don't have the colors inside, I would like to do that for the future.

Enjoy the candy! :D

I am afraid this has nothing to do with confectionery, but I wanted to make these sugar glaced cookies, but ended up with a pudding . I guess this is more for the desserts thread. Anyway, when the definition is sweet food I am okay :D

modeling 30 min or so. Rendering in lightworks with HDRI. Spent a while to get the color the way I liked it. Backdrop is from a friends kitchen.

Eye Candy - That's a play on words.

Software: trueSpace 6.6

Model time: The full 2 hours. I ran out of time which is why the jars don't have any lids.

Rendertime: 4 minutes.

Textures: 4-5 Hours but that includes a lot of searching on the net for images and fonts, lots of experimentation trying to get the glass just right and lots of time trying different label designs.

Translation: UK = Gobstoppers - USA = Jawbreakers.

Second entry - Chocolate fountain.

Model Time is about 1 hour

Texturing about an hour - couldn't get it right - it's the bit I hate doing.

Rendered using DirectX - tried with VRay but again, couldn't get right.

All modelling done in Workspace.
