SMC # 27 poll is closed and we have new winner - Ed_baker. Can you add Maria Sharapova to these perfect rackets in the future?:D

Congratulations to the winner and thanks to all for participation. Great works!

Sweet! I didn't really expect to win, but I will wear the crown with honor:p

Anyway, give me a day to think of a challenge and I should post it tomorrow. I don't have an idea ready.

Thanks!

Ed

:p looks like another 2nd place for Nez. Guess we need to stay tuned to see if Nez can pull out the MMC... ;)

Congrats Ed! Looking forward to the new topic. :)

Thanks Jack - getting quite a collection of 'silvers'!

Pipped at the post again! Was leading the vote for a while again, but I always seem to run out of puff just as the line draws into sight! Anyway, Ed's rackets were a worthy winner - well done Ed. I thought about trying something similar but couldn't think how to approach the strings convincingly in the time available - how did you do them?

At least I've got the MMC as consolation!

It was actualy pretty easy. I started by drawing a poly line curve (image 1).

Next, I took that path and smoothed all the sharp corners by changing all the points at once and smoothing them (image 2).

Next I drew a circle to loft along the "string" path (image 3).

Next I lofted the circle along the string path and adjusted the size until it was a thickness I was happy with (image 1).

I then converted the NURBS rail patch with history to a NURBS plain patch. And then I converted that to a polyhedron (image 2).

Then rotating, copying, scaling etc and then booleaning off the extra gives and you've got the strings of the racket (image 3).

Hope this helps.:jumpy:

Maybe if I get the time I'll post a tutorial for the whole racket. (I still need to finish the clock tutorial).

Cheers Ed - useful to see how you tackled it, nice straightforward solution too.
