bastages - I was in the lead to win until there were more entries :(

I was first and quickest adhering to the premise of the speed challenge. :D

Well I've done my 2 hours modelling over a couple of lunch breaks but have got to get the texturing etc done in the next lunch-break or two - but having just seen Changa's entry I'm not sure there's any point!

Nez, do not be pessimistic. You did a lot of good work modelling interior walls, staircase, bay windows etc. My model is simple.

Great entries sofar but it would be nice to have a few more. This is your chance to show us your house!

So I give a small extension of the deadline, it is now:

Sunday March 2, at midnight, according to the Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time, so plenty of time to finish!

Thanks Changa - appreciate the positive comments. Your model may be simple, but you've demonstrated an amazing 'less-is-more' approach that most of us could learn from - I'd love to see a bit more detail on your lighting approach, textures etc. I'm assuming you used VRay and maybe HDRI etc? As I'm only on TS5 I probably can't totally emulate but it would be useful to get a bit more insight... As I can't get VRay type renders, I tend to go for modelling as much as possible, which may not be the best approach!

Thanks Nez. Yes this is Vray and it saves a lot of time on light setup. For exteriors I always use just one infinite light with shadow for the sun and GI. It never was so easy with LW. Be honest I can not achieve good results using HDRI so for 'live' glass reflections I use huge plane with desaturated to almost black-and-white (to prevent colour bleeding) image of surrounds. LW gives good results with HDRI. The only bad thing is deep shadows on the building from the boundary walls. So sometimes better to desable shadow casting for these walls.

Tuxtures are quite simple. Most interesting are roof textures. RoofTile and RoofTileBump - for slopes (2 U and 2 V repeats, amp - 0.2 for 1x1x1 meter cubic UV) . It also works great with dribble. RoofTileEnd is very useful if you do not use true displacement, but requires UV adjustment.

I have another advice for some SMC challengers. Just my opinion. Although this is speed mode challenge, but imagine that it is culinary challenge. Your dish can be very complicated but not tasty if you did not salt it. Light, texturing and rendering is a salt of 3D. If you decided to spend 2 hours for nothing (except fun), spend one more hour to bring your work to perfection.

Feel free to use them in your projects. If you sell the textures by lucky chance - send my royalty:D
