Objective:
Model any type of CAMERA in under 2 hours

DEADLINE : December 8th 12:00 pm GMT -3:00

The rules:
1. Create the model(s) in the specified time.
2. You may enter as many times as you like.
3. Your entry should include a wireframe screen grab before subdivision has been applied, mainly this is so people can get an idea of how things were created and maybe learn something.
4. Include time spent, trueSpace version, render engine.
5. Post only one image per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels. Final composition is up to you.
6. Render time, lighting and texturing are not included as people with slower computers may be at a disadvantage.
7. The winner is encouraged to place a tutorial in the new Tutorium showing how they made their entry (Contact Norm). Sometimes the wireframe isn't enough.

Good Luck to all!

Well to keep things moving, I'm posting my wireframe now and I'll come back and edit the post to add the finished render when that's done.

(edit: And here it is...)

Vintage SLR (based mostly on photo of a real camera)

Modelling time: 2 lunchbreaks! (2 hours) No SDS except on D-rings for strap (would have liked to add the strap but ran out of time for that). Otherwise all polys/sweeps, booleans etc.

Textures, lighting etc - tbc... guessing at another hour, so hope to post finished picture same time tomorrow! Back to (real) work now...

(edit - spent an hour and a half on shaders/textures and lighting - not 100% happy with the result as IBL shadow wasn't really strong enough and reflection in the floor just about disappeared, but having taken 2 hours to render, I didn't feel like tweaking it any more to sort it out better)

My first camera. It was 35 years ago.

Model time 1:20, texturing 5 hours! UV is not my cup of tea. How did MadMouse manage the Fat Boy?

Found this info in Inet: Years of manufacturing 1961-1969. Made 1 992 546 pcs. Very strong camera. Fully manual:D My older daughter (photo hobbist) told me that she has found it in my Mom's house in Moscow. She wants to try it, but does not know what to do with all these rings and handles.:D

Edit: Last image is real!

Holy renderings Changa! How are the rest of us supposed to compete with that? Nice job. Maybe we should have an amateur division. :D

Well, here is my version of an early Star Trek holographic camera. Took me just about the whole two hours to make and about 5minutes to render. TS6.6 with built-in renderer.

You know you look - you know you do.

I mean you strain your neck trying to see, but never get a full on shot.

Not to worry because now there is BUTT CAM! :D

BUTT CAM is integrated Lens technology that uses your toilet tank as emersive fluid amplifier to display and preserve your BUTT SHOTS for later review. It can also display BUTT profiles on mirrors for real time BUTT SCENES.

tS7.51

Texture: Mostly Shaders - 50 minutes

Construction Time: maybe 1 hour - it was spheres, cubes and torus - nothing complicated. :)

Render Time: about 40 minutes for different BUTT VIEWS :D

webcam, based on a Logitech model but time was running out when I tried to do the base, therefore GLW, Georgies Little Webcam :)

SDS on base, everything else sweeping and booleans.

Fits nicely in James bathroom.

2 h modeling, texturing only color shader with reflections. Vray render with HDRI

Cheers

Georg

Flying Saucer Camera - Yeah, it's real. :D

This "Flying Saucer Camera" was first introduced back in 1953

and was designed specifically for the Air Force. It featured one

lens to "take regular pictures" while the second lens "separates

light into colors so scientists can judge the source and make-up

of saucers".

tS7.51

Render: Lightworx - about 40 minutes testing light effects, etc.

Texture: about 1 hour 20 minutes, fooling around with stuff, bump

Model Time: Less than an hour - basic cubes, cylinders and stuff :)

Hi.

A fun exercise, but I run out of time as usual. A lot of detail to add if it is going to look like the real camera that I based it on.

Modelling: 2h

Texturing: about 2 hour, but not happy at all with it. Is there any more resources about this topic besides the Caligari video about texturing?

Modelling done in TS 6.6, texture in TS 7.51

Rendered with Vray.
