Shame your mask wasn't up there for voting, Blakeo. It was a trough call between yours and Prodigy's. :)

Good turn out for this one and congrats to all the entrants!

Very instructive and inspiring SMC this time. Good choice of subject, Blakeo, and great entry btw.

Im agree,

What you think about this new Rule??

Winner can submit his entry, and if he wins, the image is selected as the winner but the next challenge is selected by the second place..

I think that the winner should have the ability to take place in the next challenge. (Can you imagine that world champion withdraw from the next championship?) Presence of the winner motivates other challengers. I also think that the winner has true right to choose the next subject. This is the only prize in this game except our respect. SMC bases enterily on trust. Are we afraid of prepared in advance models? But who can check model time? I am sure that all winners were simply the best without any craftiness. Or we do not beleive in winner's imagination concerning the next challenge subject?

Yeah I think it would be fine for the winner to be in the running in the next one too. Changa is right there is a lot of trust in this competition. I trust everyone here to do the right thing.

Wow I got a few votes. I voted for prodigy myself, his is awesome. Am I allowed to vote since I made a model? I didn't think of that.

I personally think the winner should not be in the voting for the next challenge. As the system is based on trust, that rule ensures that the winner varies from challenge to chalenge and hence the nature of it varies and helps keeps it fresh.

It is the simplest way. Getting a vote is a buzz and winning outright should be enough for anyone, winning twice in a row is just not important. It is more important to learn, push your limits and most of all just have fun... :)

But, saying that, I'm happy if people want a change, and if so, I'd go with Prodigy's suggestion of the 2nd place picking the next topic, if the person setting the challenge wins.

BTW - great turnout everyone and great models.

I agree with Blakeo, the current 'champion' should not be in the current SMC that they are running for the reasons I outlined before. I think this is the fairest way and helps keep it fresh rather than any one name becoming too dominating.

I can see where Prodigy is coming from with his suggestion but I don't like it. "Sorry you weren't quite good enough to win outright but, here, you have it anyway". Bit patronising and unnecessarily messy.

I think the big problem here is the leak of fun..

And the same its happening right now with MMC.. don't you think?

First, nono i can't spend 2 hours or im not good or fast.. that's why was created the MMC..

But now there's only 3 challengers for the next MMC.. and the last "dream's house" we found another fews and with the big prize of "Dribble"

I hate this routine of non change..

What ever.. If i win im gonna make a SMC Special Edition ( i belive we need something fun)

Then will see if that works or not, but im sure it gonna works preaty well..:D

I agree with Changa. I think there's nothing wrong with a "reigning champion", if the users are tired of seeing the same winner then they'll vote for someone else. ;)

I think the simplest solution is to do what we've been doing, current winner decides the rules for the next challenge. That's the reward of winning. :)

I agree that we need to keep this fun but educational too. I know exactly what Prodigy means by the lack of participation even when there is a free prize! I've tried everything I could to get the interest level up. Is our lives THAT cluttered that no one can participate? THAT busy to enter a 2 hour contest? Yet not too busy to complain about the rules of these contest...

The winner has the power to do what he/she wants in my opinion. I haven't seen the same person claiming the crown as suggested and if they did...they deserve it.

Perhaps it's the time of the year? Maybe people are making other types of artwork, like decorated cookies and stuff. :)

I can vouch that between home remodeling projects and my current 3D related contract, I haven't really had much time to do miscellaneous modeling.

But I think that's a one of the most important reasons to participate. The challenges are a good way to keep our skill sharp when we're working on long projects and to give back to the community at the same time. ;)

I agree with Steinie, the rules are not what makes the challenge. It's the spirit of fun and participating in the community. :D Lets get out there and model somethin'!

BTW, I'm planning a last minute entry to the MMC, and I think others should join in too! There's no reason why you can't do SMC style entries for the MMC. No says you have to spend the whole 3 weeks on the project, you're just not limited to 2 hours. ;)

We work all the day, i had my part time job at day and my fulltime 3d job at night.. I know what means "Bussy" ;)

I do Vendeta's mask starting at 2am.. i stop my work to do this entry.. and guess why? because i love SMC.. not to show my skills, or how fast i can do something.. is because is the only way to push me to model something non related to my work..

How many times you've model a mask?? or food?? i get practice and practice.. and thats the best part of all.. and that's fun for me..

About the rules? who cares!! let's try to put a little of fun on this.. thats all..

I'm not too fussed about the rules (particulalrly as I've never finsished higher than second anyway:rolleyes:) but it seems fairest if the winner steps back from the next challenge to make sure someone else will definitely win next time.

But I guess there could be scope for a 'special edition' challenge or alternative rules to be used now and then to keep things fresh, and I like the fact that we now have the MMC too for folks who aren't comformtable with the SMC format.

As for time pressures - well, it's not even just this time of year. Personally I'm out either at work or commuting for 13 hours of the day, my (short) evenings are spent having my dinner and spending some time with my wife or out at meetings and my weekends are pretty full with the kids, visiting folks, church and everything else. If I get even an hour a week on the computer at home, it's a rare thing.

For me, the joy of the SMC is I have a fighting chance of managing an entry by working over a couple of my lunchbreaks at work - plus the chance to model things I wouldn't normally attempt. Whether I ever find time to benefit is another matter, but it is helping me learn and I enjoy the challenge and hope to carry on entering as much as possible, largely because I won't be modelling anything much else to show! Chances are I'm unlikely to have time to enter the MMC again either in the near future, but will just have to wait and see.

Anyway good luck everyone - Prodigy, although there's still some time to go, you're looking pretty secure at this stage, well done!

This was my first forum smc and I did have fun doing it. I am not too concerned with the rules either. I think its ok for the winner to have another go, but I see the other sides point too. Either way is fine for me. I just want to have some fun. It's cool what blakeo did, made one just for fun when he can't enter it in competition. This is for fun and sharpening our skills. I never knew I could model something fast until I did the speed model challenge at tnl. I never tried to speed model before. And I loved it. So it's cool to learn something new about yourself by trying these things.

It is absolutely great fun to do the SMC. It is like a small assignment with not too much worries, a quick model and a bit of rendering. It is always something you would not have thought of making and it is very stimulating when somebody votes for your model (let alone winning the SMC:D).

I learn a lot from doing and from seeing the solutions from others. As for the MMC, I love to follow the threads and give comments when I feel it could be useful but I know I probably will not have time enough to finish one to the end. Perhaps I should just do it...

Anyway, congratulations, Prodigy with your beautiful mask and let's get on with the next SMC!!

I love watching the SMCs and I would like to join in, but right now, I am not sure there is anything I can model in 2 hours...

I would have liked to try the mask, and even did a drawing, but by the time I 'got the spark' it was actually over already, lol.

I'm still struggling for tools and techniques... BUT .. when I've finished putting the Orbicles thing together (which is utterly consuming at the moment - housework has gone somewhere in a handbasket), I'll give SMC a try. :D

... and I might have just a bit better grasp of modeling by then too..

^_^
