Here is the next speed model challenge - a piece of clothing.

So this can range from hat to shoes, and anything in between including glasses and wigs! Something for everyone!

We have seen parts of it before in earlier challenges, like footwear, but this gives a broader range to choose from. I am counting on your imagination.

Objective:

Model any type of clothing with a time limit of 2 hours for modeling.


DEADLINE : October 22nd at the exact moment that this day ends on this globe!

The rules:

1. Create the model(s) in the specified time.

2. You may enter as many times as you like.

3. Your entry should include a wireframe screen grab before subdivision has been applied, mainly this is so people can get an idea of how things were created and maybe learn something.

4. Include time spent, trueSpace version, render engine.

5. Post only one image per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels. Final composition is up to you.

6. Render time, lighting and texturing are not included as people with slower computers may be at a disadvantage.

7. The winner is encouraged to place a tutorial in the new Tutorium showing how they made their entry (Contact Norm). Sometimes the wireframe isn't enough.

Couldn't think of anything in particular but turtle fashion wear. Nice yellow and green "dicky" with some green trim. :D


Forgot to unsubdivide the wire, grandchildren arriving soon...must go...

less than 2 hours for model (4 phone calls made me forget start time) :)


tS7.51, and that render thing engine Lightwave thingie whatchamacallit - whatever it is...

Hi


This is the first model I have produced using ts, up to now I have just been trying out the tools so its very basic.


Modeling was done in about 1 hour 45 minutes, time workiing out how to apply textures etc - thats anybodys guess :o.


I am using ts 7.51

I wanted to make a shirt or blouse and use the soft paint brush for wrinkles and folds but this has led to nothing at all. It just does not work for me, there is too little control it seems. Oh well, back to some box modeling. These boots are meant for an alien warrior but look quite comfy. They come in different colors, but only one size.

Modeling of the boot 1 h, a few minutes for the shoe thing, rendering took forever, because the bump (normal) maps gave me a hard time.

7.5 and Vray.

Duke of Burgundy Suit of Armour (apparently!)


I know this is a bit cheeky - it's not a 'piece' of clothing but I took the rule from 'Model any type of clothing' :)


I knew that I wouldn't finish the model in 2 hours, but trying to get as much as possible done pushes the modelling speed up each time. As you can see from the reference pic, I am missing a lot of details.


So, again, I took the 2 hours (used a stopwatch) for the modelling. Everything was done in Workspace and nearly all the pieces are low poly cylinder primitives, shelled, and about 180 degree radial. I then used the edge loop tools, normal extrude and pushed/pulled the faces about to add details. ;) The torso and helmet are spheres. Everything had 2 levels of SDS applied for the final render, except the helmet, which has it around the bottom only.


Lighting and texturing then took much longer than is necessary because I'm slow at that! And a bit of touching up in photoshop to reduce shadow noise.


Model time: 2 hours

tS: 7.51

Vray: 1.51

Something to go with Prodigy's tie...!


Not the greatest effort, but I've never tried clothing so I thought it would be fun to have a go. Turned out I was wrong! Hoped to use an SDS approach but for some reason changed my mind and started with NURBS instead.

Don't think I've ever cursed my pc/software so much in one weekend... I may never use Nurbs again!


Final output isn't all that I hoped for, but better than I expected at most stages along the way...


Modelled in TS5.1, modelling time approx 1hr 45mins (split roughly evenly over two sessions on Saturday and Sunday). Mannequin based on a butchered poser figure to use as a prop.

Texturing and lighting - maybe 10mins.

Rendering - longer than I expected - took nearly an hour due to IBL and 4xAA setting.


Might try something using SDS over my lunch-break and see how I get on...
