Thanks for the comments everyone :)

Changa - I had to look several times between your pics trying to decide which was the photo and which was the render - fantastic work.

Prodigy: Thanks for the banana ... means a lot coming from yourself :)

Froo: nah, more likely to baked beans in our house!

WWotW: Sorry :o It's not like me to get in first on these... I'm usually down the other end of the thread, trying to think of something different to do :)

Ed: Thanks. I would (obviously) recommend VRay to everyone - although I've had it 8 months I still know only a fraction of the settings

Georg: thanks - but don't forget messages in bottles! Although, I always seem get a wrong number... ;)

Changa, what a great model, I admire the way you got the colors in the render to match the original eeeh... which original?

Thanks guys for your kind replies:)

Georg, I've tried to follow the original. It is most easy for colours. Just put the original near the monitor:D this time. Usualy I take correct RGB seettings in PhotoShop. Yes and set HDRI saturation (in Global Env. on the model side) to -1.

Prodigy, I used SSS with low S weight for the speakerphone and plastic shader for the rest. Reflection setting - 0.09

Thanks Blakeo, and your work is great as always.

I actually have mine done... I'm doing so much these days that I did it in 6 15-min increments. I will get the wireframe done and post it tonight - I hope.

Thanks Prodigy... It actually looks a lot better than I thought it would. This is the first time I ever built it first and textured it after. I usually texture as I go along.

I'm with you Steinie. I can some times get the modeling done quickly, but it takes me a week to do the textures. :D

I can only model fast in primitives, when I use SDS it is often so unpredictable in my hands. I have to practice more. Prodigy's cell phone is another beautiful example of SDS (and great texturing btw). I like texturing, it is like painting, but I agree with Jack, when texturing an hour is nothing.

Kena's phone is great fun, I like the way you did the cord.

cheers

Georg

Call it 'Challenge Fatigue Syndrome'
There are getting to be too many to keep track of.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Also, you other makes such beutiful contributions that beginners like me is a bit "afraid" of posting (my attempts looks really bad compared). Stupid, I know, but perhaps we should have a newbie section? :)

No! Splitting the community into levels would be truly bad. Some people in the upper levels wouldn't deserve to be there by some people's reckoning and some who aren't might feel they should be, etc, etc. No, no, no, bad idea!

A much, much better way is for you not to be scared. On the whole we're a pretty friendly and encouraging bunch. Once you take that step and post your first render you'll wonder what you were worried about. Took me ages to pluck up the courage to post my first render all those years ago on the TSML and I've still got the wonderful feedback and emails of support (this is pre forums) so go ahead, it's a wonderful and life changing experience!

Motivation guys... Motivation.. :jumpy:

I think Speed Model is like make excersices.. on any new speed challenge (pro or noob) you allways get practice and experience, if you never enter you never gonna loose your FAT MODELING SKILLS!!

If you can't create a whole telephone create what you can, and do your best and then you can see your work and be proud of it.. WOW i've made that under 2 hours..

And i KNOW on the next challenge you gonna say "WOOOW this is my best render" then on the next challenge "no! THIS IS my best render"

And that is the best part of all..

You should post anyway.... I've never won the challenge, but I always post something when I think I have a chance to actually be able to make something.

Sometimes I do good, and sometimes bad... Doesn't really matter, as They all make my skills improve. Which was the purpose of the contest.

The nice thing about these challenges is that you have to model something you perhaps would not think of. It is a challenge of creativity and personally I like to have a deadline to finish something. I have been hesitating like you, but decided to jump in a few challnges ago and the responses were very nice and supportive. This is a great forum and we are all here to learn from each other. It would be a shame when the SMC would come to a slow stop.

So where are all these telephones?????

I agree with the others above - I decided to take the plunge and start entering the SMCs purely as a fnu thing to try. I certainly didn't get many votes in the first few, but was elated if I got so much as a compliment. I still don't get a lot of votes but am beginning to get some, at least some of the time, and I'm more than happy with that!

The standard has improved over the last few months (even mine!), so I don't think I'll be winning any time soon, but I find it good fun to take part when I can. My time for general TS modelling is very limited, so a short lived challenge like this almost helps, as it is feasible for me to squeeze an hour or two out of my lunch-breaks at work. It's quite refreshing to have a go at something you wouldn't normally try to model.

I hope I might have time to finish something for this challenge, but have been rather caught up in other things the last few days, like my daughter's first day at school, so time's been shorter than usual. Give it a go spyfrog!

I'm the same actually, 2 challenges ago (musical instruments) I was so excited to get just one vote...it makes all the difference. It was a rush job too so I was really pleased.

I really want to get the telephone done but I don't think I have the time...
