Objective:
Model any type of Telephone in under 2 hours
DEADLINE : September 8th 12:00 pm -03:00 GMT
The rules:
1. Create the model(s) in the specified time.
2. You may enter as many times as you like.
3. Your entry should include a wireframe screen grab before subdivision has been applied, mainly this is so people can get an idea of how things were created and maybe learn something.
4. Include time spent, trueSpace version, render engine.
5. Post only one image per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels. Final composition is up to you.
6. Render time, lighting and texturing are not included as people with slower computers may be at a disadvantage.
7. The winner is encouraged to place a tutorial in the new Tutorium showing how they made their entry (Contact Norm). Sometimes the wireframe isn't enough.

Here is my entry. It is not really a phone, although it says so 4 times (I know, I am stupid). When rendering it looked so plastic with the initial reflection settings that I made a slot in the roof and turned it into a coinbox.
Modeling just in 2 hours, used the array tool for the window frame, very handy. Texturing and light set up about an hour. Vray with HDR

My entry...
It was kind of based on an antique musical lighter/clock my wife and I got as a wedding present. Anyway, I didn't have time to finish it so there are no numbers on the dial, no wires and no little thingy that stops the dial going round.
Model: just under 2 hours (1/2 workspace, 1/2 modeller)
Texturing: about 10 minutes
Lighting: 2 minutes (add hdri, tweak settings and remove infinite lights)
rendering: about 35 minutes using VRay (had to turn down settings as it kept failing) |

Well, here's mine... not quite happy with it, but ran out of time today and won't have any more before the deadline.
Office phone:
TS version 5.1
Modelling time: 1hr 45mins or thereabouts
Texturing/lighting: approx 40-45mins
Rendering: approx 25-30mins (due to IBL)
NB - mixture of SDS and polys, as seen in wireframe; some booleans after SDS extraction, hence what you see below.... in retrospect, should have used swept poly with SDS for cables instead of lofted poly, but that's what hindsight is for... display didn't come out legible at reduced resolution (needs tiny bit more contrast)- does show date and time.... |

Ok.
I run out of time of this one, so I have to say that I more or less hide my telephone in the render...
Not very happy with the result - it looks much to plastic and lacks depth.
TS 6, Lightworks
Time modelling - 2 hr
Texturing - 30 min |
