My vote is for Prodigy. You are better cook than organ maker:D Now the model is simple, but the result is fantastic. Sometimes wireframe shows nothing. Your model could be cow's cake, but became a couple of well done eggs. My vote is for your excellent eggs.:D |

Hey I got a vote! :D Must be on the modeling, lol :p
I'm surprised Georg isn't getting more votes, his is very clean and professionally done. He would've gotten my vote but I liked the creativity of Blakeo's worm eaten apple. :D
Already looking forward to the next one. You thinking another one up yet Prodigy? ;)

I voted for Prodigy's eggs because of the "relative" simplicity of the model with the great render. I agree that the wire looks like a cow cake so it remains difficult to judge only by wire (read the vivid discussion in the last speed challenge).
Blakeos happy worm was my second choice, so clever and funny!
I am flattered by the nice words of Masters Jack and Prodigy on my render, when I see your work I feel I still have too learn soooo much
It looks like Prodigy has to come up with a new challenge, I hope I can find the time to join

Anything can happen..
About the next challenge and to beat the lack of interest, i think to suggest another speed challenge Special Edition :p
I have few ideas in mind, like a texture challenge and lighting challenge..
A challenge with a specific scene but how you add the lights, texture and the camera angle it make the diference..
Here can play the most advanced and the most "noobe" user and without any knowladge about modeling.. Is a very wide challenge..
Another Idea is create a Cube Challenge.. So you can create anything with a cube as the main object.. (Something similar to the CGSphere proyect) but more simple or complex who knows :D
what's your choice?? |

To be honest it's probably these 'special' versions and the slight straying from the early simplicity that is eroding way some of the players. The original purpose behind the SMC was to give an object (chair, helmet, brush, lamp, etc) - start opening it up too wide with 'concepts' and you lose the main focus. Giving a scene where people add the lights or camera angle is even further removed as it's not speed modelling, it's scene design.
Back to basics is, in my opinion, the way forward. A simple object for people to model. That's what the challenge should be about. |

Wicked.. on firsts editions of SMC you can se up 15 entrys.. now you have 4 users only.. what more simple than food you need??
How dificult can be create a banana... or a cookie with a cylinder and a texture??
We see 5 entrys from 4 Users in a comunity with almost 1000 users.. is a very very very low value.
I just try to find something "new" to motivate those guys who only enter to the speed model challenge to see a picture and add simple vote..
I want add and see more dynamism on this challenge.. And i think if we don't "change" or add something "new" to this contest and we continue on this way of "non motivate" players, maybe you can see me playing this game alone on the few next challenges.. |

I agree with WWoTW. I think we should keep it focused on objects. You could make the subject "cube" and we could see what people come up with. But I wouldn't change the direction of the challenge from modeling to lighting or scene setup. There's a lot of stuff we haven't covered, like "bicycle", "Sports Equipment", "Sword", "Ring", "Bell", "Gargoyle", "Toaster", etc., I think we should go for a specific object or type of object for this next one instead of a broader theme.
You could set up a monthly lighting/texturing challenge. That would be fun but the hard part is that someone would have to make a scene for each one and that could be difficult.
I did like the challenge that was going on a while back where the winner posted a doodle and the doodle had to be used to be used for the next challenge.
The likely reason for less entries this time was just people being busy with other things and just running out of time. People who have time and interest will participate if the subject interests them. The last few challenge have been fairly difficult though -- so maybe this current challenge should be a "mechanical" type object?
Anyway it's up to the winner to set the terms for the next challenge. I've got a cool subject picked out for the next one that I win, btw. :)
Edit: Oh yeah and congrats on the success of your cow patties LOL! ;) :D

I actually had an idea for this but just didn't have the time to get started...probably would have taken a day with texturing....
Did like the eggs though. to me, the model was quite simple but the realism once rendered was just cool. Not that I could have done that...I need simple geometric stuff...for now. |

That would be cool. Perhaps we could take a few objects from previously created SMCs to make a scene or even use a winning scene to see if someone could creatively texture it |

Another reason for the limited entires this time round is the holiday season - I'd like to consider myself a fairly regular entrant to the SMCs now (if somewhat unsuccessful!) but was away on holiday for the duration of this one.
Secondly - the topic was actually moderately difficult as many food products could be considered as needing 'organic' modelling rather than 'manufactured' products, which may have put a few people off - but I'm just guessing on that one.
I look forward to the next challenge and hope I have time to enter as work is going to be very busy for me for a few weeks. Like Jack/WWotW I'd rather see a specific object challenge like before, although I'd be interested to see the results of lighting/texturing challenges (I asked some time ago on the tutorial requests thread for some more specific examples of of this for older TS versions). |

I nominate prodigy to make the scenes for the lighting/texturing/rendering challenge. ;) An indoor architectural scene wouldn't be a bad start and now wouldn't be a bad time since all the other challenges are in voting.
I could definitely use the practice on texturing and lighting.

it was your idea :p
Beside you do professional interiors for a living. So who better to ask? ;)
About your eggs, I was really surprised at how nice the model rendered up and I think that impressed a lot of the people here.
For the a texturing/lighting/Rendering challenge (TLR?) I think it might be cool to have a thread of donated scenes for the challenge then let the winner pick the next scene to use. 1 or 2 weeks for the challenge (depending on the difficulty of the scene), 1 week for voting. Scene should probably start out textured with default grey phong material so it can be used by DX, Lightworks, Virtualight, and VRay users alike.
