They seem to have been like this the last few challenges, with many people posting in the last 2-3 days before deadline. Maybe they are studying the competition, or modeling over and over...or maybe they are just busy. |

Or possibly, if they're like me, they can only do it a bit at a time - I usulally try to make my entries during my lunch breaks at work, but with only 30-40mins typically available, my 2hours modelling may need 3-4 days worth of lunchbreaks - and then I may need more for textures, lighting, etc...
That's why most of my entries are on the late side... and I'm probably not the only one who has to work this way.
Do hope I can find the time this week as this is right up my street... |

I'm a bit like this. I do the modelling in 2 or three sesssions (depending on how demanding my baby daughter is!) and then on and off with the lighting, texturing, etc as and when I can fit it in. My job has nothing to do with 3D (not yet anyway...:( ) so this is done on weekends/evenings fitting around everything else in life...
At least I don't have to worry about this one - I'm not going to enter my own challenge :p hehe
Looking good on the entries so far - and both in very quickly - good speed modelling chaps!

Thanks Prodigy... in fact she was born 9 months ago, so I'm an old member of the club now! :D (I've owned trueSpace for less time!)
Weirdly, I heard a Marimba player in a Cathederal on Saturday night - the sound she produced was totally amazing - not what I was expecting from a big xylophone :p
Anyway that's off topic - more models please!

Great topic blakeo, I bet there are going to be some interesting entries. Unfortunately it looks like i'll have to miss out on this challenge like the last one as I'm on holiday along way away from a computer running trueSpace....I had to walk 7 miles to get to a library with an internet connection, but hopefully i'll be able to do the next one.
Piano is my instrument of play and a while back I modeled a midi keyboard in under 2 hours so it's anything is possible really.... |

I'm a little dense, but kenya's response to prodigy is great, and probably accurate. A marimba is too easy for prod. |

Hey, good to see some more entries!
Steinie - nice fiddle :p Don't be so sure that you're disqualified - how long did you take ? My opinion is that if you go over time, as long as you're honest in stating it, it's up to the voters to decide if you deserve a vote. Unless of course it took 4 hours or something... :)
Nez - very nice one - I thought we'd have more inventive ones like this - plenty of time left so I guess we'll see.
Morgan - errrr, where's the instrument dude? Lovely mic but how do you play it?

Well the modeling time was within two hours but I ran into problems with the Violin's top. I tried to get the curved top without using Modeler and things went to poop. In a nutshell two hours solid modeling, 1/2 hour editing (which I feel disqualified me), 45 minutes texturing, 15 minutes to composite, instant rendering time.
Hey this thing is about building up your skill level and having fun. I would be honored having it in your challenge but not because of it's merits but rather my desire to contribute. |

You sing into it, of course. ;) Vocal music is, after all, music, and the microphone is an instrument for amplifying and altering that sound, just as a drum is an instrument for amplifying and altering percussion.
It's up to you, of course, if you think it doesn't qualify, but I can't see how it wouldn't. |

a Mic can be a very nice musical instrument... all depends who you use it..
Check this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4P7sdo_Aj0o)
and i must confess this animal make an incredible job with the mic too..

A guitar is the instrument, the amplifier is not....I don't think it should be disqualified though. |

Well really the Mic would be equivalent to an ear or listening device, the throat and mouth would be the instrument. For example whistling using the mouth, singing using your throat.
It was his/her interpretation of the challenge. |

I appreciate the support, though I do think a microphone is an instrument. A voice is not an instrument... it's a part of you, not a tool, and an instrument is by definition a tool. And while a guitar is an instrument... an electric guitar without an amplifier is not going to produce the same sound. Nor will a human voice without a microphone. Beyond the amplification, there's a resonant quality added which alters the sound, and while there are certainly singers who don't need it... there are more that do. (Which may say more about the quality of singers out there, but I digress... ) And, of course, there are microphones out there that do more to alter the sound to a particular effect (ones with built-in vocorders). |

I liked Morgan's interpretation. My wife's a singer. In an opera house with good acoustics, or a small playhouse, you can get away without a mike. But imagine a singer performing at a pop music concert, or even a small outdoor venue, without a microphone. In that situation, there is no performance due to lack of volume. It's a musical instrument/tool just like a blade of grass can be an instrument.
Looks like to some people a tool used for amplifying sound is not an instrument, but to others it is. BTW... I say Toe-May-Toe, not Toe-Mah-Toe, but that's just my preference. :) |

I've got one ready for this challenge, but I'm having problems getting my lighting just right - If I don't get it by tonight, I will just pick the best render of the batch and load it up :D |
