Objective: to model some kind of wheel in under 2 hours... Maybe you'd like to reinvent the wheel? If not, just render a resized cylinder and call it a wheel. :D

Rules (via copy-paste):

1. Create the model in the specified time.

2. You may enter as many times as you like.

3. Your entry should include a wireframe screen grap before subdivision has been applied, mainly this is so people can get an idea of how things were created and perhaps learn a few things.

4. Include time spent, trueSpace version, render engine.

5. Post only one image per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels. Final composition is up to you and can include as many copies of the object as you wish.

6. Render time, lighting and texturing are not included as people with slower computers may be at a disadvantage.

Time limit - 120 minutes

Deadline - 12.00 AM G.M.T. Thursday 8th of March 2007

Subject - wheel

Here's an old-fashioned wagon wheel, quick and easy. Spent more time trying to make the wood look a bit older than I did on the wheel itself...

EDIT: trueSpace 4.3 was used for this.

Very nice entires so far! Especially like the ferris wheel - I had also thought to do the London Eye but decided there's no way I could something like that in 2 hours! Nice one Mr. Prodigy. :)

Here's my entry - a Roulette Wheel. I took the whole 2 hours to get the model to here - there was more detail I wanted to add but it's so easy to get carried away. ;) I had to settle for a texture map for the numbers, so that may be considered a bit of a cheat?

I then spent many more hours getting the materials done. And the render took an hour in vray with HDRI... (Think I had the samples set too high but I'm not sure as I'm still learning about this stuff! )

Anyway, I really enjoy this challenge...

It's commonly thought that the wheel was invented overnight by two cavemen called Grrr and Aargh after a heavy session on the Amanitas. In reality the wheel went through several important development stages. Here's a picture of an early prototype - as you can see there is still more research needed!

In the background, a strange dark monolith......

Wheel modelling - 25 mins

Stone ax and stone flakes modelling 45 mins

textures - approx 20 mins

Plants, background rocks and terrain are existing models from my HD.

Lighting setup - 10 mins

render time (at 1280x1024) approx 4 mins in tS 6.6

Hamster wheel for bipedal hamsters.

Modeled and rendered in tS6.6.

Time to model - 80 minutes.

Time to render... no idea.

I don't like it, but I don't think I'll have time to make anything else. :(
