Thanks to everyone who participated and voted in Challenge #4.

OK, the next challenge is dedicated to Andy Kay, who started these
challenges on 3D Total and is/was an inspiration to me and many tS users.
Thanks Andy!

Take two hours to model a computer mouse.

Objective:
to model a 'mouse' in 2 hours or less, the type is up to you.

The rules:
1. Create the model in the specified time.
2. You may enter as many times as you like.
3. Your entry should include a wireframe screen grab before subdivision has been applied, mainly this is so people can get an idea of how things were created and maybe learn something.
4. Include time spent, trueSpace version, render engine.
5. Post only one image per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels. Final composition is up to you and can include as many copies of the object as you wish.
6. Render time, lighting and texturing are not included as people with slower computers may be at a disadvantage.
7. Any method of construction is allowed- SDS, NURBS, whatever works for you.

Time limit - 120 minutes
Deadline - 12:15 GMT Monday 8 January 2007
Subject - Mouse

Actually Had time to finish a whole challenge!

This is my old time - solid state mouse made from an assemble it yourself kit.

I got this idea from what the movie "Pirates of Silicon Valley" potrayed as the first mouse. Very much just a white box. Then I was wondering what it would look like if it was made from a electronics kit circa 1950 or so. I put casters on it because I thought that would be a funny way to track how the mouse moved imagining that the "roller ball" hadn't been figured out yet. Enjoy!

Modelling: 1 Hour 45 Minutes (I had no idea how difficult it would be to model a caster wheel - most of the details of which you can't see. Go Figure)

Texturing, Rendering and Lighting: 1 Hour

Modelled in 6.6, rendered in 7.11

Rendered in Lightworks HDRI

A joke entry, was inspired by my breakfast sandwich. It was a project that needs to be fleshed out under expert porcine supervision. About 2 hours total time, I dunno...I took a nap somewhere along the line and forgot to write the times down. :D
It's a wireless pig, I mean mouse.

Modeling around 40 Minutes, material needs around 30 Minutes (after many many many TS crashes ) ;)

rendering is VRay (Lightworks won´t render the high polys)

Only if you have a time machine, deadline is January 8, 2007.:)

Good models/images folks, keep em coming!:D

Vizu, your mouse should render in LightWorks, poly count doesn't look that high. Perhaps a shader issue?

I finished this after I read the topic: "mouse".
Only later, after reading the fine print, did I see you specify 'computer mouse'.
Ah well, call it a 'Clockwork Mouse'. If nothing else, it might keep the cat entertained.
tS 6.6; 1 hour 6 minutes modeling.
This one has a little bit of everything... NURBS, straight poly modeling, SDS, even Metaballs! Lighting, Area + IBL lights. Shadermagic shaders.

Just friendly reminder, a couple of days left to try your hand at a 2 hour mouse.

Whoohoo got one done early and textured too :D

Whupps forgot to list the render engine -- VRay. Also I think I may have looked at the clock wrong and it likely only took about 30 min to setup the textures and render. Keep tweaking stuff that doesn't even really show up in the final image -- definitely a bad habit.

Be cool to see more entries, especially from forum users who haven't tried speed modeling yet. Don't forget you can do more than one entry if you have the time :)
