Since there are 12 entries (I'm sitting out the voting since I'm running the show) and the forum only allows 10 poll items, I'll split the entries into two polls.
Please vote for only one of your favorite entries, and don't forget to look at both polls before deciding.
Remember, while there are two polls, VOTE ONLY ONCE.
So without further ado, in order of submission, here are the first set:
And a link to the second set HERE. (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=1902)

BTW, don't forget to vote in the poll at the top of this thread too!

Noticed the first poll isn't getting as many votes so thought I'd give it a bump and a heads up. ;)

Might have something to do with these lines in the instructions: ;)

wupps. Thought we'd pick top 4 or so and do a "final" poll. Ah well. :o

Yes...I considered pruning down the entries to 10 to match the limit of items you can include on a forum poll... but who would have gotten the boot? I didn't want to step on any toes by prejudging; 'let the people decide' was my end decision. Sorry the split poll / extra thread is causing confusion.

No puns were harmed in the making of the above post...

:D

Yes, I vote we narrow it down to 10 for the final voting, next time.

Any chance we'll see a speed challenge for the speed challenge trophy?

That, and it took some people two weeks to do the "speed" challenge even though they had time to visit the board frequently (cough.)

I can't speak for anybody else (obviously), but most of my board visits have been little ten-minute visits while at work (far away from my computer which has trueSpace on it.) Setting aside the time to do a project which may take up to two hours in one chunk (as it didn't seem right to do a speed challenge in multiple settings) just wasn't feasible during the hecticness of this season. I've nothing but respect for any who did.

Yeah maybe so. But giving two weeks for a "speed challenge" is open for abuse.

I would suggest in the future, people be required to put in a start time and then a second separate posted entry. People can look at the clock and decide for themselves.

Besides, it would be interesting to see how far along a person can get with the time they do have to spend. It would be an insight at least on how people model.

If one doesn't enter anything more than a sphere or cube with a couple of extrusions that would be more interesting to me. The next guy pulls out an almost completed model in the spare twenty minutes he has and the uber modeler completes the model in 30 minutes, textured complete but maybe without rendering.

To me, that sort of entry is more appreciated from both artistic and educational perspective.

That'd still be open for abuse, if one were inclined to abuse a challenge with no real prize attached. JoeRandomPoster could spend 5 hours completing something, post "I'm starting now", wait an hour and 15 minutes, and post his image, and nobody would be the wiser.

It's a fact of forum life and the internet in general that you can't verify how much time people are spending on something. Since there's nothing at stake here other than the privilege to choose the next topic, I'm inclined just to trust people on the subject.

Even though the challenges are set up in a contest format, the way I
see them is a way to get as many people as possible to sit down and
create something with trueSpace. I like to see peoples approach and
technique, so more of a personal challenge. I learned this time around
that if I mirror a textured nurb object, the textures get jumbled.

If you ‘win’ a challenge then you get to set up the next one which
means that you have more things to do in the following weeks in
an already busy life. But it’s worth it to keep it growing.

In the end, it’s all about ideas, and how they can spark
the creative spirit. Just my 0.2 cents.

True, open to abuse.

But I think it would give perspective on how people model.

Someone could spot something and say, "ummm, why are you doing it that way? Why don't you do like this? It's not only faster but easier to modify."

Also, with unfinished entries, it's easier to figure out how innovative people can be.

Always looking to learn. Kind of like a furniture maker. You learn more watching how he/she starts and goes through the process rather than looking at the finished, varnished model.

It's also a way to have teachers examine the process and see what is going wrong. :)

The two week duration was a special case due to the holidays.
You can submit more than one entry if you have the time to knock them out.
For a 'contest' with no tangible 'prize' other than the responsibility of moderating the next challenge, I think running it on the honor system is 'good enough for who it's for'.
The whole point of it is not to win, it's to force yourself to construct a model within a short deadline. You are the winner if you learn something while you're doing it.
I always find the second attempt at modeling something is better and often faster.
So, relax, stay loose, be creative, and just have fun with it rather than worry if someone else is 'cheating'.

BTW, the polls close tomorrow so if anyone hasn't voted yet, look over both polls and cast your vote for one winner.
