Thanks to everyone who participated and voted in Challenge # 3.
OK, let's kick off the next challenge with something that's constantly underfoot.
Take two hours to model something you'd wear on your feet.
Shoes...boots... skiis...skates...flippers...sandals... you get the idea.

Objective:
to model 'footwear' in 2 hours or less, the type is up to you.

The rules:
1. Create the model in the specified time.
2. You may enter as many times as you like.
3. Your entry should include a wireframe screen grab before subdivision has been applied, mainly this is so people can get an idea of how things were created and maybe learn something.
4. Include time spent, trueSpace version, render engine.
5. Post only one image per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels. Final composition is up to you and can include as many copies of the object as you wish.
6. Render time, lighting and texturing are not included as people with slower computers may be at a disadvantage.
7. Any method of construction is allowed- SDS, NURBS, whatever works for you.

Time limit - 120 minutes
Deadline - 12:15 GMT Thursday 14 December 2006
Subject - Footwear

Would people here object if I used software other than tS for this? I would exclude my images from voting. I just like the idea of speed modelling sessions and would like to take part in them.

Elven Plodding Shoes. And don't ask what kind of foot would fit in that shoe :D

Easy pull tab on the back to release odor and store spare Elven gold. :)

One hour Twenty Two minutes to design in tS66. Wireframe ghosted in center of display.

...wasn't included in final voting, I wasn't worthy.

Nice topic Spacekdet.

Thought it would be best to get my butt in gear and enter 1 of these challenges, so here is my entry.

Shoes.

The flower was made of 1 petal and I applied a grid array then rotated and scaled to make the next 2 copies, all model using poly's with 2 levels of SDS layers applied. Not much up on ladies fashions so if the color scheme is off, I'm sorry.;)

Model Time all of the 120 minutes

Textures 30 minutes give or take

Render 20 minutes

Truespace 7.1 + Vray

Cheers,

Ok, here is my not so great entry heh, Never modeled footwear before becuase of how useless I am at anatomy, however Im quite happy with the outcome of this, I still have a lot to learn about creating realistic looking folds in Cloth and making something that looks wearable heh. Anyway here it, I got inspired by the Iron boots in Zelda, I wanted to make the ones from Twilight Princess but they are too complex and also I couldnt get any decent enough pictures, So instead these are the N64 Ocarina of Time Iron boots heh.

I guess my challenge idea stinks, because there weren't a lot of entries.
Too challenging for you?
Too busy running down Christmas bargains on eBay and Amazon?
What are ya...chicken?
Don't despair...there's still time to kick out an entry, because
I'm extending the deadline till midnight tonight (Thursday, December 14)
Don't let these few, sole entries be the only ones...

Just so's I put my money where my mouth is, here's my shot at footwear that'll keep you afloat in the deep stuff.
Modeling time: about an hour. NURBS construction.
Webbing is just texture/alpha maps.
tS 6.6; Lightworks.

Think it's just the pre-Christmas chaos keeping everyone busy... Might be best for the next challenge to wait until after the Christmas holidays as there may not be many folks on the forum during the break?

Thanks for the time extension - means I managed to squeeze in today's lunchbreak to have a go.

TS version: 5.1

Total time: 45 mins - modelling 20 mins, texturing/lighting/rendering 25mins

No SDS used - just NURBS/skinning in this instance.

I'm quite enjoying these speed challenges - it's quite interesting trying to model stuff I've never thought about modelling before...

Hey thanks for the extension Spacekdet :)
This is a cool topic and I've been trying to find some time, hopefully I can get an entry in today -- busy salvaging the boss's data off a failing HD and setting him up with a new one today. :-(

I think the holidays are affecting the amount of time people have, so we may want to re-visit these topics after the holiday season. Probably will want to have a two week deadline on the next one so it extends through the holiday.

@Matski, very cool work on the boots. :D

Any objections to extending the deadline another week?
Didn't think so.
I know it's a crazy busy time of year so let's let this challenge air out for 7 more days.
New Deadline for 'Footwear': 11:59 PM December 21, 2006.

Well, got this almost done.

Missing the heel and the ankle strap. Figured I'd go ahead and put it in in case I don't get the chance to put one in before the now re-extended deadline. If I get the chance I'll make another.

Here are some more quick shoes. Took about 1 hour modeling and 15 minutes rendering and textures. 1 level is SDS. Don't know how to render the wire.

You can take a screen shot by pressing the "Print Screen" button and then pasting that into your image editing software.

You can also render to wireframe by changing your render quality settings, but that won't acurately show the NURBS construction.

Besides the fact you did a great job on the boots, please remember to always remove the cardboard from new socks...

LOL! It's actually caused by too much magic starch and an out-of-control anti wrinkling spell! ;)

Just a friendly reminder that there's still time to stick your toe in the water and kick out an entry for the Speed Modeling Challenge #4.
Deadline is tomorrow (Thursday) at midnight.
I could extend it further but I don't want to subject you to any more bad puns.
So, step off and model some footwear if you haven't jumped in already.
(well, maybe a couple more puns)

Great theme for this week's challenge -- Gotta love organic modeling! I hope this theme gets revisited in the future when people have more time.

Here's my entry, wanted to get this in before it's too late. If there's still time, I'll UV map and texture it for a nicer render.

Hope everyone is having a great holiday season!
