Having followed Nowherebrains Tutorial on interface setup (and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who hasn't already checked it out). I have come across a slight snag.
I can set up the workspace interface as clearly explained, BUT if I move over to the model side, my Icons from workspace still appear on model side, and cover up the model side icons. Of course I could "push" the workspace side icons outside rather than inside the workspace border, BUT then the icons rows and columns are doubled on model side so decreasing window real estate way too much.
I have a suspicion Workspace Icons should not transfer to the model side
(the ones IN the workspace window not the ones at the bottom of workspace) but I really am not sure on that. I find the abilty to extract icons and remake toolbars VERY powerful, especially as for some strange reason the workspace window toolbar can't be kept open so theres too much digging through expandable lists of icons for my tastes. The model side icon menus do stay open but not the workspace menus. Am I doing something wrong?
Any pointers gladly received.
PS not being able to have the same keyboard shortcut keys for workspace and model is SUCH a pain.. any suggestions? Is there a workaround?
Thanks in advance
And many thanks to NowhereBrain for such a useful and FREE tutorial.
Yours

Unfortunately this is a limitation of running two separate programs as one. You can always minimize them when on the model side or, as I prefer, docking the toolbars on the edges of the screen(hold ctrl > snap to a window position).
I hope this is helpful, you can only do so much without scripting unfortunately. |

Cheers for the quick response. Have tried both your suggestions already.
Maybe I am expecting too much at this transient stage of TS moving from model to workspace. Would be nice though.
Guess for now I will bumble along making do, and see what happens in TS evolution.
Thanks again for the Tut and your quick reply.

Try this;
Set tS model side up exactly as you want it. Minimise the workspace toolbars at the bottom to two tiny dots. Save your layout as tS6.6.
Now maximise those toolbars, switch to workspace and set it up as you want it. Save layout as ts7. Of course you can call them what you need.
Now, don't bother using the workspace/model tabs anymore-just switch layouts. The layout defaults to the side of the bridge it was saved in. |

Perhaps tips like this could be added to a "Wiki" Manual.
Since the manuals we have appear to be for 'older versions' wouldn't a dynamic manual that could be updated frequently be more appropriate?
One could even place updated videos and images.
It's free as far as I know. |

I heartily second that James. AND it might help sort another problem with the manual, that of searching across multiple volumes.
In addition an added benefit is that a Wiki can be updated fast and by multiple users AND old info deleted or modified as needed.
Possibly a big job to keep current though?

There was some talk of Caligari doing this around the time of the 7.5 release. I agree it's a good idea and I wonder if it's still being considered. |

Well, I will update the Quickguide as per previous releases but the rest is out of my remit...:o |

You are welcome.
Annoying when that happens eh? Still, it was a Dev that pointed it out to me a few years ago so I can't claim to have come up with it...;) |
