Ok doing some test renders with dribble with the GI turned on. I keep getting the fuzzy shadows. I have the samples at 32...the sading rate turned down and I still get the fuzzy shadows or speckeled shadows.. what gives?

If I remember correctly, you really need to ramp the values up...and wait.

It is late and my head is 'fuzzy' but I seem to remember having to get most settings quite high for clean results...but that means longer render times.

Unless, like Frank, you want that grainy film look...;)

No spllinters I am giong for as real as I can get it now. I want to learn this GI stuff since it has it and I have it and I can't afford Vray. Here is a screen cap. For some reason when I set the samples high as in 100 it freezes up.

Hmm..even with irradence samples set to 50 it locks up.

Actually when I render out most anim. sequences (instead of test stills), I ramp all the settings to higher quality.

Here are some of my typical settings for final renders:

output tab

shading rate = .5 (or .25)

lights tab

area samples = 128 (or 256)

gi tab (IF using gi... often I don't)

enable = checked

occlusion = checked

samples = 32 (or 64, 128)

That global shading rate above has a big impact on final quality. The lower you go, the smoother the render is... but of course, with a longer render time.
