I am new to tS, having just purchased tS7.51. I purchased a bunch of tutorials, I went through the manual, and I also looked on the forums here. I have Illustrator CS, and I am having problems importing artwork. I have tried exporting as .ai and .eps from every version from Legacy 8 and on (I also tried version Illustrator 3, but that did not work either). I actually almost got it to work when I exported as .dxf, but anything that has curves will not import in. I am simply trying to extrude some logos. I made sure that the items were grouped, grayscale, all text is outlined, and no guides were present before exporting. Anything importing with a stright line works, but as you already know, this is unacceptable.

Please help me...

Here is the .eps file. right now it is saved as version CS. The "S" and "R" won't import. Actually the letters appear, but they are not editable.

When using fonts in 2D, make sure they are converted to objects before exporting or you will get weird results. The dots in front of the logo example below is an example when the fonts are not converted to objects. Missing letters and what not happen also.

It's also helpful to group objects as well.

I personally use AI export (Xara Xtreme - a vector application)

Inkscape ( a freeware vector application) does a very good job in make EPS files that can have color and works for importing as an eps file into tS.

Thanks for that, James. I am downloading Inkscape right now. It must be an Illustrator problem. I've tried exporting using .ai and it doesn't work. Hopefully Inkscape will rectify the situation.

Still not working. I saved as .eps and .dxf from Inkscape. tS won't load object. I just don't get it...

Maybe my question should be how are you importing the object into tS? I am in the modeler, I go up to the TS6 menu pull down and choose "Load" then choose "Object". Maybe i should be loading it differently.

I had the same problem with EPS, and i found how solve it but you need corel draw.

The problem is there's 3 diferent levels of EPS, truespace seems to support just level 1.

This eps must be saved in other level, so in corel draw you'r able to export in level one solveing this issue..

Here is the your eps saved in level 1.

what version of Corel Draw are you using? Do you know if the current version of X4 can save as level 1?

Im using x3 so i guess... maybe i can bet few bucks :D x4 must support level 1

Do this.. Load you eps or ai on (Corel Draw) then press export..

Choose from your dropdown list eps, save wherever you want, and on the export properties put this settings..

Well, I don't have Corel Draw. X4 is about $429. I'm going to spend almost as much on that as I did tS. I am REALLY frustrated!

OK, now I am really confused. I found Illustrator 9 on this computer. I saved out an .eps and also a .ai file with Level 1 postscript. I keep getting the same error "Bad Input Data". I now think something is wrong with my tS. Any new ideas?

I'm using Illustrator CS2, but AI import has worked for me simce Ver.4.

Video attached, just follow a few rules.

1. As stated in prev. post, convert all fonts to outlines.

2. Delete all horz/vert guidelines.

3. Use version 7 or 8 to export.

The part at the end of the video, I'm filling missing faces by Welding verts
and then un-doing. Don't know why it works but it does, alternatly you can
drop into object library and drag back to layout which repairs missing faces
as well.

OK, talked to Norm at Caligari and he figured it out. I had to go into the "Settings" on the import dialogue box to select the type of paths/curves I wanted tS to import. Turns out that my image was made up of only filled curves. That box was unchecked. Therefore, there was nothing left that tS could import and thus gave me the "Bad Input Data" error.

Much thanks to EVERYONE who helped. This really is a great community!

Not sure why it won't import unless the 2D drawing is not being converted to objects. Here's a URL to a thread I made on the same topic for INKSCAPE.

some examples of INKSCAPE to tS EPS import here:
