I'm using TS 5.2. I make an object with a piece of annimation attached - e.g., a race car. I save that object. Now I can duplicate it - either with the copy or by LOADing OBJECT repeatedly. But if I move it in space, that only moves the first frame. So if I put two of them out there, move one so it's beside the other, and hit play, they immediately converge because the rest of the animation has fixed location values.

THE QUESTION: Is there a way to move an object and cause all move location data in the animation of it to move with it. Put another way, is there a way to code an animated object to be relative locations (relative to the starting location).

In short, how can I effectively reuse an object that includes animation?

Thanks for any insight - even a pointer to the doc on how to do it.

I don't recall if tS5.2 has path animation or not.

One can make a path and it can be stored in a Library and re-used. Maybe someone with more experience in that application can answer.

You have to make the animation path visible then move the object:

- Make a copy of the animated object. The copy will have the same animation path as the original.

- Select the copied object.

- Select the 'Path' icon from the animation toolbar to make the animation path visible.

- Now select the 'Object Move' icon so it is highlighted.

- Move the copied object and the path moves with it.

If memory serves right, you can also take the animated object, and add it as a child object to a cube. Then you can move the group to wherever you like, and the animated object will play back in the new position. Simply make the cube (the non animated object) invisible, and it won't affect the render.

HTH!

Thanks! After a little tinkering, I took your solution one step further. After attaching it as a child to a cube, I can move the combination as you say and the movement is moved too. Rather than making that object invisible, if I dissolve the child relationship, then delete the extra cube, the object remains in the new position and the movement remains relative to that new position - perfect - and no invisible objects to confuse me (doesn't take much!).

If, however, I simply go into the hierarchy and delete the extra cube, the movement reverts back to the old locations. Go figure.

Thanks for the tip!
