Hay I have not been able to work in truespace 7.51 in a will and I was going to pick up some old projects I had started and I was wondering if any one has done any work with the new bones to animate a face I still have not got that yet or come up with a good rig for a face. Can any one show me some sort of idea to get me going in the right direction.

animating a face is always a challenge and I admire those who can do this. So most will generally use build in "speak functionality" where they just have to enter some words to move the mouth.

Since you will need for detailed animations some more bones inside the head, like for example two for the eye lid, one for the nose tipe and so on,you have two challenges there:

- set up locks on right place so that when you move a bone not the whole head gets deformed

- set up carefully the weight settings, I think you only should use small areas, which then asks for enough smaller faces in that area

I'm definitely no expert, but from my understanding I would start it this way.

7.6 is supposedly getting some kind of morph thing for faces. I am waiting on that. The bones as they are are not suitable to rig a face. You can't have floating bones.

You can't have floating bones. Not supposedly, animatable morphs are comming in TS7.6. Facial animation is one of the primary reasons for morphs but there are other uses too.

Thanks for the info on 7.6 I thought it could be done with the new bones is because they looked so much like Maya's bones and the rigs other people did.
