I can't figure out why its crashing. It crashes when I'm working with 20 polys and a simple 1 inch texture or when I'm working with sub divisions of 8000-9000 polys. If it was just when the poly count is high I'd know what the deal is, but its just random crashing....I copied some system info to help this along, any help is most appreciated. Also for future reference if anyone sees any info on here that would be in my best interests not to have floating around, can you let me know....thanks.... :D

I'm using spybot...ad-aware and avast anti-virus with "active/real time protection" and they've come back with nothing....I also just formatted this drive less than 7 days ago so it can't be the registry....at least I don't think so...........

So the Application is crashing and not the Computer? Only TS crashes and no other Applications? Are you point editing or using Booleans when it crashes? By "random crashing" do you mean you might be doing nothing and TS crashes?

I have notice some strange artifacts in ts image with new drivers.. but i never get a crash for that issue..

Check your cpu temperature, reinstall truespace...

Hope that help

I just had another crash while working with a plane that I quad divided 3x

(130 vertices and 128 faces) to do some sub divisions on. The only thing that was open was true space. I added one sub layer, clicked on a point on the sub layer, moved it up the z plane to start to model terrain and then splat.....The following info I got from the "Microsoft Error Report"....

AppName: ts6.exe AppVer: 6.6.9.120 ModName: ntdll.dll

ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00010c27

I wanted to pull more info but it wouldn't let me.....In the images below, the one with the red circles has a plane that isn't one sided and the other is one sided, It looks like there might be something funky goin on. I'm pretty sure both caused a crash, for come reason I can't find the fix geometry tool.

Computer isn't crashing....Only TS crashes....its been crashing like clockwork when I try sub divisions.....it crashed the other day when I tried to adjust the UV projection......How can I check my cpu temp?

I had a 6800 GS card at one time and had nothing but problems with it. Programs would crash for no apparent reason.

Although I still use NVIDIA cards, I find that the drivers for them are often the fault for crashes.

For instance, I was crashing every time I viewed a Quicktime video. I finally turned off Direct Draw and no more crashes. However, I can't leave it off as other applications need Direct Draw.

So, I ended up rolling back to the old driver and haven't had any more crashes.

I found out later, that the latest NVIDIA drivers are indeed having problems with direct draw.

There could be other problems as well that I haven't investigated.

The plane funkiness goin' on could be caused by tS planes being double-sided by default. Right Click the Plane Primitive icon and tic the 'Single-Sided' checkbox before creating the Primitive.
Can't say I've ever SDS'ed a plane before...doesn't it just 'wad up'?

The random crashiness is harder to pin down.
Check/ balance your display options.

I am a bit surprised that nobody wants to tell the truth here. trueSpace 6.6 was and is buggy. It simply will crash by touching some special tools sometimes, and it will crash here and there for no reason. That's the way it is. You have to live with the crashes. The only useful advice here is to save often, save very often, and never forget to save often. And always under another file name. You never know if the saved file is a good one ;)

Hmmm, looking closer, have you installed the two service packs for TS 6.6? Brings a bit more stability ... DirectX9c. I don`t know what Microsoft is thinking here. But there are five or six DX9c versions around nowadays. All called DX9c. But latest is from august this year when i remember correct ...

Hello all...

I'm new to tS 6.6 and the forum, so please be patient.:D

6.6 while not out right crashing on me, slows down and becomes

very jumpy & jerky. Reloading, rebooting don't help. The only way

I can get it to work right again is to reinstall. Has anyone heard of

this before? If so, what do I do?

Thanks...

Mark

I can Definitely attest to 6.6 crashing quite a bit. When I asked this question a few months back, this is what others told me:
1: Check your CPU usage. (I leave the task manager open a lot and find when I do something in tS and the memory shoots up to 100%, in a second or two... boom!. Done)
2: There was a file you should delete often. Can't remember what it was. I think actually Spacekdet had pointed this out (correct me if I'm wrong spacekdet). Something about it storing info from your previous session or somtin. Check it out.
3: Don't rush your next move until the program has finished the last task you asked it to do.
After doing these things, especially watching my CPU usage, I feel better (just a tad) by knowing at least WHY it would screw up my flow. I do think in my case, it was more the computers fault (my machine not geared for heavy duty calculations) rather than the programs fault. My experience is limited though so, hope these points help you out.

Well, not so much delete it often; just after you've had a bad crash.
It's the 'truespace.cfg' file in the tS folder. Close ts, delete the file, and tS will make a fresh one next time it starts.

6.6 while not out right crashing on me, slows down and becomes
very jumpy & jerky.
This sounds like the old 'Grid Snap accidentally turned on' problem.
Check to see if the icon that resembles a blue tic-tac-toe grid is activated.
Toggle it off and see if things smooth out.
Also if you are running in solid mode check your File/Display Options/ Text res/ ...having an unnecessarily high texture resolution can also slow you down.

Grid Snap!!! :banana:Yes, that has to be it. That conifg file

accumulating data explains why things stay that way.

You guys are Great!!! I'll try this out.

Thanks a million.....
