Using alpha map transparency in Vray with a 1024x1024 .bmp image yielded unexpected results. The bitmap is pure black and white (not the format, which is 24 bpp) but the colors are pure black and white. Rendered in Vray, the alpha channel is unacceptably blurred when it should appear crisp and clear. Even turning off the filtering option doesn't help.

If anyone knows a way to fix this or get around it, I would be most grateful for the info!

Is render quality set to high in the general render panel?

Yes, render quality is set to full. I'm also using adaptive antialiasing, raytracing, triangulation, and multithreading. The material uses plain color set to white, bitmap alpha, normal mapping and specular reflection.

I appreciate your help!

Have you tried changing/increasing the texture resolution for player in the display options panel?

Make sure the general Render Quality setting is high (in the photorender panel) and then look at the separate Vray render settings as well.

Beyond this, I am baffled...:o

Currently my player rendering settings are all at max. Here are a couple of renders to show my problem:

In Vray (blurry):

In LW (much better as far as clarity goes):

can confirm. Now I'm not sure but it looks for me like a filtering issue.
Vray use somekind of texture filtering like I posted in other thread (but in this case it wasn't the error) which can't be disabled.
Btw. Texture filtering checkbox has no effect at Vray.

Argh. I was afraid someone would say that. The evidence certainly supports it.

Thanks anyway for the info. :D

Like I said I'm not sure but I'm also interested to know about it because I get this in similar case too. Will let you know if I get response from Developers why and where this is caused.

Got response from Developer:

"I can confirm the problem with downsampled transparency maps - this was due to a bug in a bridge (setting High quality had no effect in this case as internal downsampled flag wasn't set)."

So it is fixed in next update.
