Hi Guys,

Just starting to get to grips with HDRI and have noticed a problem that I hope you can help with:-

I was trying to render an object using HDRI for reflections only and normal lights for illumination. All was fine until I turned on mapped shadows on the lights and suddenly the HDRI reflections disappear:confused: I was using a Caligari Phong for the object and no matter how I alter the settings of the material or the lights or HDRI there is still no reflections other than from objects in the scene:confused: Turn off the mapped shadows or set them to Ray and the reflections come back.

And now I'm stumped

HELP!!!

P.S. Oh if I use some of the other shaders i.e. mirror or glass then all is fine????? don't know if that helps??

Which render engine - Lightworks or VRay?

Under VRay you could try raising the Back.Intensity value in case it is too low. If you set the Back.Intensity to zero then a regular background image or colour is used fo rreflections. Also see if you have Use Only Envir. Lights checked or not.

MadMouse..it seems that is the case.in lightworks...caligari phong, enhanced phong, enviroment map, caligari metal..[didn't check them all,] but those don't seem to work with mapped shadows just raytraced ones..

vray doesn't seem to have this issue, mapped shadows seem to work..:) ..

NOte that V-Ray doesn't support mapped shadows - your mapped shadow lights are rendered as raytrace shadow casting lights. This could be why the HDRI works in those cases.

HTH!
