Hello all,

I'm having a heck of a time trying to get from point A to point B through truespace. I know many of you veterans have been here before and will be able to help me out. I am having so many errors I really don't know what to do at this point.

TS gives me an error any time I try to import an .AI Illustrator file, it doesn't matter if the file is version 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, etc. for Illustrator. The error is: This Adobe Illustrator file requires resources with versions different than those available. Attempting to use the resources that are available. The import fails. Why can't I import any .AI files into Truespace?

I am able to import a .EPS file that has several shapes. One shape is a large rectangle and inside of the rectangle are many smaller shapes that serve as cut-outs. I can extrude all of the shapes. Then I try to do an object subtraction, subtracting the smaller shapes from the rectangle with the intention of punching holes through the rectangle. Almost every single time I try to do this, at some point during the operation, I will get an error telling me that something bad may have happened and to save my work and restart Truespace. When I do that and re-open my scene, everything is messed up. Is there some kind of unfixed bug with the Object Subtration tool?

I have drawn a curve with the Nurbs Add Polyline tool making a series of points, then I closed the curve. Now I want to draw a trimming curve. I want to make a shape INSIDE of the curve I created previously and cut it out, to make a hole through the original curve. Any time I try to create the trimming curve it will not create any points. Am I missing a step? Is the original curve that I created not yet an editable mesh? Is there a way to create the first closed curve that I made into an editable mesh so that I can then make holes in it with a trimming curve?

Finally: I have Macromedia Freehand and I have many logos that are in vector format that I want to get into Truespace. What is the best method to convert them using Truespace? The methods I have tried, mainly exporting as .EPS files then import to Truespace and then attempting to SWEEP them doesn't usually work very well. Anyone with experience in this area or know of some tool that will do this well?

Thank you!
Andre

once you make your first poly line..you need to extrude it..then cap it..then you can create a trimming curve on the cap..hth

Hi Andre,

I use Illustrator CS2 so it may be different than Freehand but here are a few suggestions.

1. Use AI version 7 or 8 when you save the file.

2. Make sure there are no fonts in the document unless they are converted to curves first.

3. Make sure that no shapes have strokes applied, unless you intend to use them as separate objects. (see attached image for visual.)

4. Remove all guides from AI document before saving.

Attached image is one I posted on the old trueSpace forums.

*If unstroked & unfilled curves are combined with
stroked or filled curves, the nurbs curves will be
excluded on import into TS.
