Hi all,

I recently downloaded the TS6.6 trial version. When i try to drag and drop a material onto an object the egg-timer is displayed then basically TS crashes with no error message. Tried restarting TS and rebooting pc to no avail.

Also tried the various "display object" options (wireframe, transparent-outline etc) incase its a graphics card issue.

I am very keen to sort this problem as i intend to possibly purchase TS5.2 or TS6.6 eventually.

I tried TS3 a few years ago and after trying many many other low/mid-range and freeware 3d packages since then, none have been as easy to use as TS, hence the recent decision to try the latest incarnations of TS (not sure TS7.1 will run too well on my system, no DX9 card).

Below are my system specs incase it helps to diagnose the crashing issue:

Athlon XP 2200

MSI KT3 Ultra2 motherboard

512mb ddr

Geforce 4 ti4400

80gig HD (FAT32)

kind regards

There seems to be a bug surrounding the materials pane and how it works. When I used the demo it crashed when trying to do certain things with materials. Instead of dragging materials onto objects, try just painting the face using the material editor pane.
You'll just have to persevere with the demo and try and avoid the combinations of events that cause it to crash.

PS: Why oh why is your hdd format as FAT32

Thanks for the response hemulin. If its a bug just confined to the trial version then thats not a problem.

Painting the object using material editor works fine.

I bought this pc almost 4 yeards ago and have never had to format it, hence original drive is still formatted as i received it.

I have since also installed a 250gig drive which i formatted in NTFS.

OK. There are no bugs regarding the material editor in ts6.6 FULL (that I know of)

Just to clarify, this crash only occurs when i drag & drop from the "material library" not from the "material editor".

Does it occur every time you tried this? I have just fiddled around with the demo again and it didn't crash (i did it about 10 times). Although it could be to do with what material you are trying to paste (i.e. if the texture map is too big) or what graphics engine you are using (d3d or openGL) that's presume your not using wireframe.

Being a demo user at one point, I know that it is really buggy and I found that it often crashes.

I just reinstalled the demo and tried what you are trying to do and it works fine for about 5 or 6 attempts and then ts freezes and eventually get an error report:confused::confused:

PS this was with a big texture map - so that could be the problem;)

You and you're big texture maps, Stoker, you seem to have endless problems with 'em!

I just found that you had to be very careful what you did in the demo (if you were trying to create something worthwhile), if you found a way to get something to work, don't change it, cos it'll probably end up crashing. It's a shame because it's one of the marketing forces for Caligari, maybe they should check up on the ts6.6 demo. (Or maybe they're secretly working on a tS7 demo - we can always hope)
