In versions of tS prior to tS7 if you wanted to know the "full name" of a shader it would be listed in the menu bar (at bottom of screen, near file and help). Like wise and more important to me from a workflow perspective, if an object already had shaders applied and you wanted to know what the shaders were all you had to do was move your mouse over the shader channel and you would get the name of the shader in the menu bar. How does tS 7 show you the name of shaders already applied to an object?? I thought the "material list" would show that info but it does not!

It's still there.

Thing is the title bar information now goes on the Status Line panel, which is not open by default in the various configurations stored in tS.

I always open it, put it at the bottom, and save the config, then use my config in place of the defaults :)

The Status Line is much more flexible than the title bar was. Anyway, all info that used to appear on the title line - shader name, tool name, percentage through render, etc - now appears on the Status Line.

Tom..can you really get all the tool names? I can't..it shows shaders[except basic color, layers..and render.. never has it shown tool names ..it doesn't show plugin info any more except things done with this ->tsxSetHelpMessage (mk:@MSITStore:C:\Documents%20and%20Settings\gordo n\My%20Documents\mytsw\tsw\doc\ts\ts66api.chm::/tsxMisc_8h.html#a11) (char *str)

Tom, I cant find a reference to "Status line panel" in the ts7_AG guide. How do I get to that panel?

Oh, found it! This functionality is found via clicking the "progress report" icon under the Tool library. Not very intuitive.

Yes, Progress Report doesnt sound as good as Status Line to me - which is why I saved some configs with it open so I need never go looking for it again ;)

BTW it changes size, and displays extra lines, eg when doing V-Ray rendering. Shows a lot of useful info - just mentioning as if you set it up to show the default one line, you'll miss out on some useful stuff that it displays.

I may move to a config that places it in the bottom right only, since it occupies three lines worth at the moment in order to have enough space to show all possible messages. I've seen Parva use the bottom right set up, so I may switch :)

Tool names - turns out it only shows those for what I can only describe as "active toolbars" - so if you point at the tools that are always on show around the modeler, nothing shows up. But if you do point edit, or material editor, it will give the name of the icons on there.

HTH!

thanks Tom..after a better look it seems it shows the help tip for any old icons and panels, but not the new ones..that's why plugins don't they are new icons..

Thanks for that. I'm having a little odd behaviour with implementing it so I'll try reproducing it & if I can I'll file a report in the bugs forum.

Is there any possibility that all the tooltip properties of... well, everything, could be piped/hooked/whatever into the status line?

Also, could you pass on a request to the devs to make that outline thing that shows where a toolbar is going to dock [when using ctrl+drag] a bit more visible/obvious? Maybe a bright white line, or perhaps use the "marching ants" approach that some 2D apps use for selections [I know PSP does, & I've heard PS does as well].
