I have a wall of kitchen cabinets in a .scn file. As soon as I select anything in the scene, TS freezes and has to be closed with the Task Manager. The scene has a lot of work in it, and there does not seem to be a .bak file for it. How can I get it functional again?

Thanks for any help.

I have been working in TS7 for so lon I cannot remember. Are you able to update to TS6.6 (if you do not already). One idea might be to check if any of your units are made of objects glued together. Unglue them all or break down the hierarchy. See if that helps...:)

Here you go...:-)....

\attach{TS Freezer}

Janet

Will have to find out how to attach files in these new forums......

I'm pretty sure the offending object is the niche all the way on the left with the square indents---it has a lot of boolian subtractions....

yep can confirm. Not every object freeze the program but some... if you like I can convert it to working scene.

Btw. I have currently also a scene which freeze, came up that must something to do with the selection tool (multiple selection of objects via Ctrl)... frustration pure.

edit: a really corrupted scene but can't say why. Nevermind here you can download new version, it should now work.

LINK (http://www.parva-project.de/stuff/ts/kitchen.zip)
kit_rework is the same scene just without the corruption
kit_new is a scene where I deleted doubled objects (some objects where twice and more)

hi Janet..here is another repaired version ..done in ts6..all that was done to salvage it was select all the kitchen objects at once holding ctrl..put the selection in an object library..got your lights in light library..create new scene add your lights from light library and the selection object from the object library and the new scene works fine..

To Parva,

Secrets on a TS forum....?????? Well, they say there's a first time for everything....:-)....

If removing doubled objects worked, that's all I really need...(and to get my materials back...:-)...). So what is the advantage of the reworked one?

To Stan,

That's great---and ready to go with all my materials, too! There's double lighting (selecting all objects in a scene usually selects the lighting at 0,0,as well), but just clicking Textured in the light library fixed it. Any explanation for what the problem was?? Or why your fix worked?

One thing I don't get though:

The left portion was yellow in wire mode and the rest of the scene in white wire. I r-clicked the layer to take the yellow off, and it took on the color of my display configuration as expected. But the rest of the scene stays white wire in wire mode (even when selected) and I can't change it to fit my display color choices. What's that all about?

It's after 1AM, so I'll be turning in, but I will look in to the forum first thing in the morning....

Many thanks for your help!

sorry Janet,..that was just me moving things to another layer to see what gave the freezing..forgot to put everything back on one layer..just hold down the ALT key and drag the yellow layer icon onto the basic layer {then drop it} to bring back only one layer..and then you will just have white wire again..

and set your realtime render back to solid..I had it at transparent wire ..

guess I should have created the new scene, then added the selection object then the lights..then all lights in scene get removed ready for the new ones out of library..

only thing that seemed to be "the problem" was the .scn file itself, it was somehow corrupted..not the objects in it..it had nothing to do with double objects or anything like that..they are still in the repaired .scn..

..here is the scene back like it was..:D

To Parva,

Secrets on a TS forum....?????? Well, they say there's a first time for everything....:-)....

:D hehe, yes. I work with many different data formats, espacially OBJ and DXF from Autocad conversion and repair or fix bad geometry. One of these external programs I use for this is Deep Exploration.

If removing doubled objects worked, that's all I really need...(and to get my materials back...:-)...). So what is the advantage of the reworked one?

The double objects wasn't the error like Stan said. The advantage is a smaller version and more overwiew ;)

I found out what's the problem was and funny, it's the same problem I had yesterday with my scene. Somehow you have made a selection of several objects like I said beyond with Ctrl+select.
If you save the scene with this selection and reopen it you (can, I don't know if this is repeatable) get a corrupted scene.

I found it out as I open the Piscene Tool, the scene lister I'm working with and open the Scene Editor too.
Now look that the Scene Editor shows less objects:
http://www.parva-project.de/stuff/ts/seler.jpg

The scene editor shows just selection of the objects (but not the objects itself, they are no longer stored in the group list)
where Piscene Tool can't show the selection but all objects.
So if you select a object the program can't find it (can't find it in scene editor)
Best is to use the glue tool not the selection via Ctrl

Parva..it seems the scene editor list has problems with selections..because the selection is in the object info panel..I can reproduce this in ts6 and ts7.1 ..

looking at the original scene again it seems this selection was missing something.[a flag or pointer?].by selecting objects in the info panel then clicking on an object in the scene I was able to stop the freezing and salvage the original scene..breaking the buggy bond the selection had on the objects..:)

Good to know Stan how this one can be fixed easier inside truespace :)

Funny ts 6 is so old and still new things to encounter :D

Here's an intersesting finding:

If I open the scene, I get the Info Box like in Stan's (ie Gordon's) screen capture with None selected.

Then if I select the Selection in the info box, it expands into all the individual items and everything seems to work fine from there on...! :)

I don't recall having had this problem before with multiple selections saved as a single entry in an object library. My guess is that multiple selections containing a large number of objects are handled differently from multiple selections with only a few objects. Good to know.

Janet

PS I found I had the whole Scene-Object saved as an object in its own Object Library with all of its individual objects saved separately as well...!! Sort of like saving the 'scene' within the object library. I had saved it as a scene in the scene library as well for safekeeping....So I could have continued work either from the Obj library or from the scene you folks were repairing. I forgot I had it in the two places.

hi Janet..it seems the problem was that selection didn't get registered in the saved scene properly. .now you know how to solve the issue if it occurs again..great..:) in the end it really was only a matter of getting the selection un-selected, but it couldn't be done in the scene due to the selection itself..the selection should have been active when the scene opened, but it wasn't....I think selecting it in the object info panel re-activated it, registering it with the scene properly again....

I too save selections to object libraries without problems..or save scenes with selections..never had any problems..Gord..
