I'm having huge memory problems since installing 7.1. First of all it takes a considerable time to load. 7.0 loaded in just a few seconds. Then every action initiates the hard drive, as though the entire program is loaded into virtual memory rather than physical memory. Then after a few minutes of using 7.1 the icons start getting weird. Some will show correctly while others are the wrong icons. Then some icons become totally black. If I continue to work everything eventually crashes down with the blue screen of death. I never had any of these problems with 7.0. All my drivers are the latest version including my ATI video driver which is dated 4/12/06.

is your colour quality on your pc set to 32 bit I had this problem and it was set at 16.
This could solve icons dissappearing

Icon problems are often a result of having 16 bit display depth so you might want to check you are in 32 bit mode. Also that you have the DirectX 9.0C or better.

7.1 does take longer to start up initially than 7.0 - not sure why. The memory footprint is virtually the same as 7.0, though. A big memory hog is HDRI textures, especially if they are quite high resolution.

Video is 32 bit. I have not made any changes to my system since installing 7.1 other than updating my video driver in an attempt to solve these problems. These problems did not occur in 7.0. These problems did exist prior to the video driver update.

According to Task Manager TS7.1 uses approximately 124 megs of ram when it first starts up. From there the ram usage continues to climb until the whole system crashes with the blue screen of death. Sounds like a huge memory leak to me.

I wouldnt say it is a memory leak also depends of how much RAM you got I can run loads of programs and am currently using 2.01gb of memory and TS runs I cant understand why it just keeps on climbing;)

I have 1 gig physical memory with virtual memory currently set at another 2 gigs. I can run other high powered programs all day long without a glitch. Never had any problems with 7.0 either. As it currently stands 7.1 is unusable on my computer. 10 or 15 minutes of manipulating a box into various shapes in Player and my system completely shuts down.

what if you went back to version 7.0 and see if it does the same thing then you can distinguish whether this is a true space problem of a PC problem;)

I no longer have 7.0 on my computer. I had the download version. When 7.1 was released the download link changed from 7.0 to 7.1 so now I can't even download 7.0 again. But, if the problem is ONLY with 7.1 and not 7.0 or ANY of my other programs that pretty much narrows it down.

I've noticed performance issues with 7.1 as well. Hard drive makes all manner of noise. Haven't tried turning off the bridge, and I certainly would not want to resort to that. What I haven't tried is reinstalling 7.1 after completely deleting the previous Truespace7 folder, but I'm thinking it might be worth a look based on some suggestions in other threads.

I installed to another directory (c:\Truspace71) so in theory I could go back to 7.0 if needed. However 7.0 now doesnt work - Just pops up one window and tells me things arent installed properly - so I assume some registry settings are now pointing to 7.1 Shame - would have helped in these situations..

Something that may help in the future.. I now always setup 3 partitions on my primary drive - install XP on each of them (c: d: and e:) (it doesnt use any more licenses) and use them to stagger software upgrades.. so I installed truespace 7.1 on c:\ and still have 7.0 when I boot my E: drive

I origonally setup the 3 partitions so c:L could be for web dev, d: for .Net coding and e: for 3D, Music production and video editing - it helps to keep the tools in the same place and have the different XP installs more purposed for their uses rather than cludging it all together.

Thinking now.. - I wonder how fast Truespace goes on the New Boot Camp'ed Mac Intel box...!

You may want to try defragging your hd if you haven't tried already, i just did mine and noticed a substantial difference in the loading time.
