I know the maximum texture res. for tS6.6 is like 4000x4000.

1). Would tS except a texture res. of say 5000x2800?

(Is it total pixels, or total in a certain direction?)

2). If not what would happen? (Texture cut-off/ distorted/no load).

Technically it's 4096 X 4096 limit. This is due to Lightworks render engine.
Unknown to me if this still applies if you use one of the other engines.
1) No. It's not the total, but the amount in either direction.
2) An oversize texture will often display in solid mode, but it will render black.

Just browsing and saw this and figured i check it out.

I just tried a 5000x2800 .png in ts7.0 and it does display fine in virtual light or vray renders and appear to display normal on objects also seems to display fine in the player on objects, black render from light works as spacekdet has stated.

I always assumed that textures max res was 2048 x 2048 in 6.6 (never even knew it could handle 4096 for the two years i used that version) and since those are the highest settings in the display options for texture res and player in 7.0, but that doesn't appear to be the case with virtual light and vray.
