For those of you with older tS versions, or for those who may at least recall using it - tell me this, please.

Was tS 5 - 5.2 a decent, stable version?

And, how was its rendering/output quality? That's a more critical point, in my view (of what I'm looking for). Not to mention, I still have and run tS 2 point something, with a patch, and that puppy works like a charm even today, folks (and I'm fond of tS, overall). Guess it's the one I "stuck" to, years ago - or, it stuck to me. <grin>

I'm posing the above two queries on tS as there's a deal on now, for a short while, for those of us with OLD versions of tS to move along slowly in an upgrade path - to 5.2 (I think it is).

Thanks, for replies/info; advice-opinions appreciated,

BillyBT (Pat)

My first question would be "are you kidding"? I still have Ts/SE version 1 but I dont use it! I also have all the major releases since then except for version 3. I still use version 6 and 6.6 becuase of plugin compatibilities. TS has improved leaps and bounds in the areas of modelling (like SubD and NURBS), materials/shaders, lighting, animation and rendering... the list goes on and on. With regard to stability I am sure that whatever you are doing with your version 2 will be stable in either version of 5 :) , And you get better renders by virtue of the items I mentioned already like improved surfacing and lighting. It is a no brainer!

I still use tS 5.1 and have to say that there have been stability issues for me. This doesn't mean you will experience what I do. Your layout will change and you will have to find certain tools again. You may want to take a snapshot of your tS2 workspace so you can customize tS5 to you liking.

You can expect to be hooked on the magic ring, so just accept that fact now and prepare to wonder how you got along without it. If you feel you can spare another $45 invest in CK Game Factory's Polytools and Primitive Itches trueMirror. Actually, if mirror modelling is not something you think you will do a lot of, you can probably make do with the Simple Symmetry tsx included on the CD.

You will come across the occasional bug, but overall, if tS2 has satisfied your needs thus far, tS5 should exceed your expectations.

tS 5 came out in 2001. For you to get a feel for the render quality it may be a good idea for you to view tS gallery for 2001:
