This may have come up previously but I have found that tS7 sometimes makes objects disappear when you move from the model window to the player. I have been modelling with SDS in the model window but occasionally flip over to the player window to use some of the alternate SDS tools available there. On a couple of occasions I have found the object is invisible in the player window but reappears if I return to the model window. BTW I always make sure that there is no SDS smoothing applied when I change between the 2 views.

When this happens I can save the object out from the model windows file menu but if I try to save the object in the object library stack view it remains invisible. I get an error message saying the object has a problem!

I can keep using the model in model view but they are now useless in the player. I want to make objects that are accessable to all the programs features so I have had to scrap hours of work. (My paranoid back up behaviour is the only thing that has stopped me from scrapping days of work and returning to square one!)

Does anyone know what is going on here? Can the model be repaired?

I'm not sure if this is it or not, but do you have the bridge set to "auto"? It is my understanding that when the bridge is set to auto, there may be times when communication between the model view and player will not work as expected.

If you're bridge is set to auto, try changing it to "on". This, as I understand it, is supposed keep constant bridging between modeler and player.

The SDS feature in the Model and the SDS feature in the Player are completely independant SDS routines. If you create an SDS object in the Model view, when you switch to Player the object should be visible. If it isn't then you should check the BridgeSync settings in the Preferences panel of the Stack view.

If you see the SDS object created in the Model view in the Player, then right click it to attempt to edit it further you'll get a message saying that the object has to be converted to polygons before it can be edited. As mentioned before this is because the algorithms for SDS in the Player and Model view are different.

The library error you are seeing is something else again but could be caused by the conversion of the object between the Player and Model views - best to post the error message as Cayenne has requested.

thanks for the info - now I have to figure out where the bridgesync is located - it doesn't exist in the preferences in the stack view in either the window or player views. I looked up bridgesync in the pdf manual and it tells you what the different settings are but it doesn't say where to find it (at least not in the vicinity of the bridgesync info!) Sorry I've only just started using tS over the past couple of weeks - I'll do a search and see if I can find more info

There may be some tools that are not bridged correctly - if object disapearing is caused by some tool and you can isolate it, please let us know. Some tS tools require special treatment to work with bridge...

Obviously I am an idiot because I cannot figure out how to show the Desktop Preferences but I beg your indulgence and support anyway! (According to the manual page 105 this is where you find the BridgeSync stuff.)

Clicking on the preferences tool icon in the stack menu doesn't show it. Clicking on the little icon to the left of the Preferences heading causes a drop down to appear which includes the option "Open Desktop Preferences" . This option is in black - not greyed out. If I select it nothing happens the Desktop Preferences do not miraculously appear.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks Bobbin for the tip but that is what I have been trying to do - I click on that icon but I do not get the Desktop Preferences and BridgeSync displaying. It seems to me it needs to be turned on somehow - so thats what I'm asking help on - how to turn it on.

I'd recommend saving your current layout in the layouts library then reloading the default layout from the same library and trying again.

One of the problems of having a very customisable interface is that it's possible to mess around with it until nobody would have any idea what is where. Without seeing your screen, it would be hard to know where to start.

If you have accidentaly closed Desktop preferences panel, you can find it in Link editor in Preferences encapsulator. (use link editor yellow triangle to get to the root of LE and there you should find desktop preferences. Enter it using yellow triangle on the panel..).

I don't believe I've made any real changes to the layout since I started working with tS7 (only about 2 weeks ago). If reloading the default just means clicking on the default tab top left then I have already done that.

tomasb thanks for the info - although to be honest at the moment I'm looking at this site from work and I don't understand a word of your reply!! I'll just have to wait until I get home and see if I can figure it out - hopefully it will be the solution.

Burnart..you can reset truespace to default..that will help you find the desktop panel..it should again show up in the stack in preferences

first try the "reset to default content" icon it's under the new scene icon in player..

or
close truespace..reopon by this method

first hold down ctrl key, while holding it, open truespace ..a panel will open called "configure truespace" check ->"use default configuration " then click ok..

Hi Burnart,

Here is quick flash showing Thomasb direction. Modeler Ring scene is starting point in Link Editor. Hope this helps.

Edit: looks like to view this animation, Right click on linked file below then select "Save As", then open once downloaded to computer. Don't know why it won't open straight from link below.

Works fine for me, but then I have Media Player Classic (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358) installed & set to be the default app for .swf files. It doesn't stop flash working normally in a webpage, it only plays them when you either launch a file directly from Explorer or when the file is directly linked to, rather than embedded.

Thanks Noko, TomasB and Stan - I now have my desktop preferences back and can see the bridgesync stuff. So far I have had no re-occurence of the disappering object phenomena although I have noted a couple of other anomalies - one of which is that in the model window if I start editing an object I have to hold down the ctrl key and lm click to select a single face or edge or vertex. I'm sure previously all I had to do was highlight them by rolling the mouse over and then lm clicking. Not a big deal just odd.

My game plan is to just go ahead on a little animation project I want to do and try to resolve any issues I have with the new version as they occur. So far its working I'v learnt something about the organisation of preferences and the LE window. Thanks again guys.

Burnhart..that selecting problem shouldn't happen in edit..at the end of the edit toolbar are 3 icons with blue and yellow spheres..check to see if you have "remove from selection" icon active, it works like that..it will subtract from selection unless you hold down ctrl while selecting..
