My Facial Animator is missing Internal speech recognition engine.

Is anyone else having this problem besides me, more importantly does anyone have a Facial Animator in Ts7 that works and has the Internal speech recognition engine?

In Ts 6.6 I have both

Internal speech recognition engine and

MS Speech synthesis engine.

In Ts7 there is only the MS Speech synthesis engine in the dropdown box and nothing else, yet when you look in the files everything is there. And according to the manual it is all there too, But not in my Ts7. the version I have is on CD version 7.01

By the way I have tried it in default mode model side with KFE open as well as closed, also in Animation view model side with KFE open or closed, plus testing it with the bridge on or off, but it will not bring up the missing Internal speech recognition engine.

Am I doing something wrong?

I emailed Norm Fortier and got the following reply….The facial animator is not as robust in trueSpace7 as it was in earlier versions. I have mentioned this scenario to developers. We will hope they can do something in this regard.

Thanks Norm for looking into it but it did not answer my question, does this mean it works sometimes, or not on some computers or not at all.

So if anyone has had success could you let me know if there is a special way to make it work.

Does no answer mean I didn't write the question clearly, or maybe no one uses the facial animator.

I don't use Facial Animator but I checked my 7.0 for you and it is the same as your description. Only MS shows in the drop down box.

I am missing the Internal speech recognition as well. So I am not able to load the Wav. files that came with trueSpace7 to use as speech. With the MS Speech systhesis engine, I am only able to use one voice (Sam). It would be great if you could use L&H TruVoice TTS as well. Hummmm... trueSpace/truVoice!

Thanks for the replies

It’s starting to look like the Facial Animator is incomplete as it stands right now.

Below is a second reply from caligari tech support.

Quote……”One item I should mention; check your Player libraries: Objects/Tutorial Objects/Sound object. You can l-click drag this item into the Link Editor and check it out. It provides part of the missing scenario. Hopefully with the 7.1 scenario for animation, this scenario can be reviewed and improved”….end quote.

So it seems that they were quite aware of the fact that the Facial Animator only half works. It does not seem to be an accidental omission. The artist’s manual pretends it works. The proper thing to do would have been to mention it in a list of known problems which should be available to buyers before they buy.

It does not look hopeful when looking at the last sentence which says, I quote … Hopefully with the 7.1 scenario for animation, this scenario can be reviewed and improved… end quote.

An analogy , I jump out of the aircraft with my new parachute pack, ( I packed it myself so I know everything is there and I’ve used their parachutes before and they worked great, so , no worries), I pull the ripcord…, nothing happens, I use my safety back up, it opens. I am plummeting down at a great rate and while falling call the company on my mobile. They say …ah yes… it’s not as robust as the previous version, we are looking into it.

Moments after hitting the ground and breaking both my legs I get a call back from the company suggesting I spread my arms and legs to slow me down in the mean time, hopefully the next version we will have one that actually works, although they prefer to use the word IMPROVE.

Many of us use this product for our living, it is not a hobby. I can’t go to my client take their money and say, sure I’ll make the film, can’t promise it will work. The client does not care how complicated or difficult it is for me to do. If I take the job I must get it done and deliver by the dead line, if not then I am dead from a business point of view. If I know upfront that some part does not work I would work a way around it or do it some other way. Right now I am sticking to Ts6.6 and use Ts7 when I want to play and there is no deadline. Parts of Ts7 that actually work I love but the company could save itself much trouble if did the right thing and was upfront and spoke honestly in plain English before you buy.

Preach it Mario. Shared Space doesn't work. Trueplay isn't there.

It seems to be one of those unfortunate negatives that Caligari just can't seem to shake. A certain lack of accountability. I think it's one of the major issues that keeps them from sitting at the table with the other 3d software vendors.

You go to any forum for any major software and you'll see that there's people finding bugs and glitches. But with Caligari, major features are left incomplete in the software release without mention on the website. You have to get them to admit it in the forums.

Could you imagine buying a version of photoshop that advertised features it didn't actually have? Never gonna happen.

Mario,

I feel your pain, Hopefully this ommision of speech engine was just a honest mistake or oversite. I agree that it does seem strange that it is not there.

I do believe it is in the manual too, Although I havent checked it yet.

I will see what I can do to get this fixed for you.

Cheers

No company that releases part finished software as a "final release" deserves a break today or any other day.

Don't say that too loudly to Microsoft ;). Final release, I think I know what you mean, edition ment for the public. Since TS is still in developement and hopefully will remain in development.

Then again virtually every software I own has updates and bug fixes, this seems to be more of a bug. I get the real issue is that Mario feels he isn't getting a straight answer or the answer he got doesn't help him plan out how he will meet the demands of his customer with what he expected. Or something like that. Now he did get a reply or replies to this issue, try that with Microsoft :).
