So I've been working on this floater robot and I have a situation that I don't understand the cause of.

I have two objects - the "palms" of the robots hands. Every time I load the scene, the two objects are mis-placed as you see in the attached images.I drill down through the hiarchy and move them back into their proper spot and re-save the scene.

Guess what? - When I load the scene, they are misplaced again?!!!!!They are still part of the hiarchy and all - they move relative to the rest of the arm like they are supposed to, (It's got bones in it) they are just in the wrong $%#@! spot!

Anyone else see this before or have ideas on how to fix this? It does it on both TS 6.6 and 7.0

And on a totally seperate note: Hows my robot lookin?

Sorry, can't help with your prob, wish I could. :( A couple of other things though:

1. With this new forum you can edit your posts, so if something doesn't appear the way you intended you can fix it. :)

2. The text on your images is really hard to read, a lighter colour [eg white] would make it easier to read, & also using a higher-quality/lower-compression setting, or using .png files instead of .jpg would make it clearer as well.

(It's got bones in it)

Could be a part of the problem. I don't know how the skeleton was made but it could be due to the axis of your objects.

Check that when you change the position of the object and save the scene/object you are on frame 0 of any animation. It's easy to move away from frame 0, change something which sets a keyframe then save the scene without realising.

This might not be the problem but it's worth looking.

So it still doesn´t work in TS 7 ? Heh, good ol traditions of keeping bugs to the new versions instead fixing them. Caligari should definitely leave this tradition behind. On the other hand: the new Animation Tools are at its way. And that may be the reason why Caligari haven´t done and doesn´t do anything at this ancient fossil called native trueSpace Bones :)

It´s one of the lots of known and never fixed bugs in the bones system. Without any recorded animation the whole stuff is set back to default. The information is saved in the file. But TS 6.6 doesn´t read it while loading when there is no recorded animation in the SE, as some conversion tests with TS 4.3 showed me. There it kept its rotation/scale/position. Same file in TS 66, and rotation/scale/position was lost again( the skeleton and its correspondending mesh itself was destroyed due incompatibility between ts 4.3 and ts 6.6, but that´s another story ;) )

You have to record a keyframe so that the position/rotation/scaling of the skeleton and its connected parts will be restored as you leave it when saving. Make your settings, switch to keyframe 1, press the record button, and save your scene. Then it should load fine.

After being away from this object for a couple of months, I finally got around to trying what you said, but still no go.

It seems that no matter what I do, the part always justs back - even after recording a keyframe.

Any other ideas anybody?

I had the same problem with version 6.5. It only happened to me when I saved the scene with the skeleton selected. Select a light or any other object without bones and save it, then see what happens.

Unfortunatly I couldn't fix the mesh or scene, it was totally f*****, so I never touched bones again.

I'm sure the bones are unchanged in 7.

you are absolutley correct!

All I have to do is have something ELSE selected when I save the scene - I've had this happen to stuff before but never made the connection. It also corrupts the underlying skeletion as well.

Hey Tech guys:

Is this a bug or User Error? how are you supposed to save your boned objects so that the skeleton doesn't change?
