TS7 now shows the start up box then dissappears. I tried reloading the software but no change. I don't think I have changed any thing on my pc.

Abit ax8

AMD 64 +3000

2 GB ram

windows xp pro sp2

Nvidea 6600 w/ 128 mb

Any ideas?

Try this. Click on the icon to start TS. Before it loads hold down the Ctrl key. You will get a configuration dialog. Set Use Default Configuration then Ok. See if that clears it up.

Thanks, but that didn't help.

Try control and shift while clicking on ts icon then choose default configuration.

If it was working but now ceases to load, you can safely delete or zip then delete this file. default.ctx located in :\trueSpace7\tS\default.ctx, it may be what is causing the non Launch of the programme.

you will get a message saying "libraries restored from disc"

However I also note you are using some quite old nVidia drivers but this may not be the problem here and although you cannot use the latest ones from nVidia you can install up to 78.01 from the nvidia driver archive .

It may also be worth checking to see if only one instance of tS7 is running in the task manager as well and if there are multiple instances then terminate them and start a fresh launch.

By reloading do you mean reinstalling?

I believe video driver issue at work. Check the ReadMe.rtf file in your "ts" directory. It gives description of problem and the resolution.

I think this problem is video related also. I recently change to an LCD monitor. After a while it would no longer run from the DVI output of the video card, only vga. I think this may be about the time TS quit working. I completely removed TS7 and reinstalled, and it still does not work. I also tried to load my old copy of TS6, it will not run either. This could be a hardware issue possibly, the funny thing is that all other applications seem to work properly, just 2 problems: no DVI output and no TS!!!

I will reload the video drivers and if that does not work I may try a new video card.

Thanks,

Try open an old scene you've made, simply double click it. As you probably will notice nothing will happen however this resets whatever problem Ts7 had with opening the old file.

Now open Ts7 and the old scene should open without any problems, if this is the scenario that is ;)

Thanks for all the help...Installing the 78.01 drivers fixed the problem. As part of troubleshooting I got a new video card, 6800 GS. That driver does not support the new card. Any idea when the new driver will be available? Or should I return the card?

Thanks again...

well, two possible scenarios.

1. Look in very top left corner of monitor. Is a sqrunched up ts7 main interface there?

2. Default configuration pooched. Delete file called default.ctx from ts directory and try fresh restart of trueSpace.

Hope it helps.

This was reported before. Scene editor exists in its own window just like other floating windows in TS7. Therefore, you need to close Scene Editor before closing TS7 main window.

Ideally, close TS with the Shut Down icon in bottom left of screen.

P.S. As a programmer I learned already as the basics to always consider the windows dependency so I really never would have gotten the idea that closing the program with the X in the upper right would turn out like this.

I had exactly this same feeling...it seems like the close button on the main window should close all other windows... the TS developers say that this is not possible with the way that TS works. The good news is that after using TS7 for a while you will learn not to leave extra windows open :D

Dont forget that the Shutdown trueSpace button is the way to close tS. That way you will not accidentally end up closing a window and leaving tS running.

You can of course drag this button anywhere you wish in your interface, so that it's convenient in your layout.

Using that icon means you don't have to close down other open windows first - the main problem here is using the "close window" icon in the top right of any window. This really does do just that - it closes the window, but not the application (which with floating windows no longer has one window that "is" the application).

HTH!

Apparently that was also confirmed as part of the Microsoft windows standard in another thread. So for those who are still scratching their heads as to why clicking on the X does not do what you need remember that all the windows in TS are like different programs that are all inter-related. Think of it like office-if you have Excel and Word running and you closed Excel you would not expect Word to close as well.

That is the best analogy I can do at short notice. Not treading on your toes here Tom but I am pretty sure that another thread questioned the validity of the shut down icon method....;)

Emma, dragging the top of the LE window up should lift the icons with it revealing the shutdown icon. Indeed, I have a 19" monitor but not on my laptop which is 1024x768 and I can quite easily get to that icon. However, I have now dragged it to the top of the LE icon toolbar so I can easily get to it. Make sure to save your layout if you do this though or it will default back next time you load TS...:)

Quite wrong on all your points about beta testers hardware and focus, Emma. Also please remember that Caligari write and set the guidelines for use - not beta testers.

tS7 can be used at 1024x768 but personally I wouldn't recommend it because there are limitations as you have found. Realistically 1280x1024 is the lowest at which tS7 becomes easier to use - but it is useable at 1024x768. At 1024x768 I make use of the configurable desktop to create a layout that's better. If you want a productive excercise, why not come up with a layout that is suitable for your resolution and submit it to Caligari for others to enjoy?

By the way - exactly which 'system standards' are you referring to there?

The other quick solution I found as I prefer 1024x800 (eyesight!!:( ) is to turn the toolbar with the main shutdown icon and the one above from 2D to 1D. The text options don't occupy so much space and then everything fits. To do this convert top tool bar first, then the lower one with the shutdown
