I ran my daily virus and add ware removing software and found a spy ware folder in the truespass 7 folder.
If I delete this folder how will it effect Version7? ( The file is huntbar something or the other). Is that a necessary file/folder for TS to operate ? I don’t have much bandwidth to spare so If I can remove it without damaging the software I would like to. :) |

Hey DanX, I ran Ad-aware, Spy bot, my virus scanner and pest patrol and I haven't found this to be the case, and I have been running TS7 for quite a while. Could it be it arrived there by other means, as I haven't heard this from anyone else. Any thoughts? Do you know the exact name of the file, might help in trying to find out how it got there? |

I should say you can safely quarantine or remove the offending spyware using your adware removal soft it should not cause a problem for tS7
if you do a google search on huntbar you can find out more information. |

Danx what program found it? I run several but also tries to make it easy.
Any info of what the name of the spyware and what program you used?
Since you can allways reinstall the best is to allways delete, remove, the files but avoid doing this automaticly and instead have the programs just report first time, this is to avoind that the system files or your mailing system files is deleted.

DanX:
I suggest you go here (http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm) & follow the instructions. I'm not saying to do this intead of any current security measures you're taking, but to do this in addition to any other precautions.
If you follow those instructions & check for an update at least once a month it should drastically reduce your chances of something like this happening again.
Actually, I recommend everyone do this, not just DanX. |

When you say you installed Hosts, do you mean you just pasted the contents of the file that site provides into your Hosts file, or you installed 1 of the Hosts file managing progs that site links to? If the latter, fair enough - I haven't tried them, but if all you're doing is pasting stuff into it, all you need to do instead of rebooting is to use XP's repair connection function. [open the properties for your internet conection (your network connection, found via Control Panel) , go to the support tab & click Repair] |
