the picture above is of the quick time player that opens with the panoramic camera movie created in ts 7 model side(ts 6)

the playrer dose not have regular vcr controls instead it has zoom buttons

if you move the mouse pointer in to the display it will allow you to rotate the image....not what i want

i am trying to make a panoramic movie of space to be played in the background mode as i move objects i create...like in the movie the silver server

what am i dong wrong??

If I understand you correctly, you just need to create a 'regular' animation where you animate the (normal) camera - someone esle could explain more the finer details of that as it's not something I do much.

The panoramic camera is specifically for creating QuicktimeVR (or 'QTVR') files - these are very cool but probably not what you are after from your description.

QTVR is an interactive format that is sometimes found on the web (although there are other comparable non-Apple equivalents now) which allows a viewer to move round a scene or object (depedning whether you're looking 'inwards' or 'outwards'. There's not much in the way of documentation on using it in truespace but it is a nice little tool which I've used a few times. But the key is, as you've noticed - that it's not a preset/precontrolled animation - it's a way of letting a viewer choose which way to move/zoom etc, within a (very) limited scope.

Ah, as Nez says, the Panoramic camera is not what you want. It makes special quicktime VR files that let you look around the scene or object, but the user controls how that happens, rotating their point of view etc. These are not the same as quicktime video files that "simply play back".

To just make a background, you'll need to render out to regular image or video files then convert into the relevant format in other software, importing the image or video files to use as a background. That application where you blend background and other objects would be the one to create the quicktime file - other than the special panoramic files, tS doesn't render direct to quicktime video format, that I recall.

Now I may be misunderstanding what you mean still, as it's not clear - when you say "playing in the background while I move objects I create" I am assuming you are off in another app moving the objects you create, eg moving them in a web page on top of the quicktime file playing in the background, or something similar. I'm assuming this as you specify quicktime as a format in particular, as if you have a specific need for that format.

Let us know more about what it is you are trying to do and everyone will be able to give more advice. You certainly don't want to the panoramic camera however, that much we can be sure about!

sorry i did not get back you sooner....my idea was to make a video clip in effects lab....this is a particle system program that outputs video clips...i wanted to use this clip as a background animation using the background shader in ts6 which allows for animation,,,than i could make objects such as planets move around the scene while the startfield video clip played in the bg....i though that the pan camera would allow me to pan across the bg video as my objects (planets, etc) were animated.. this would have been easy if my assumption was correct...by the way i notice that the bg animation on the workspace side does not exist and rendering the bg animation on the model side only gives up the 1st frame....now i do think that the way i am left with is to
1 make a plane that will be the screen and paint the video clip on it
2 manipulate my ts objects in front of it
3.animate a camera to do the panning
so thanks for your time and input and i am open to anyother suggestions that might come this way:)

If the particle effect animation is just an animated background, you could composite that in later with your Video editing software. With trueSpace when you render to png the background is made transparent also if you use a solid color for the background that will make for easy compositing anyway even if you don't render to png format. ;)

Hope that helps!

The compositing later would probably be a good approach here. You can if you like though paste it onto a plane as you describe (perhaps easier to match camera panning then).

The Panoramic camera is definitely not part of this solution though, since both types (object and panoramic) are related to creating Quicktime files out of tS, and not for reading animations into tS or displaying animations in tS.
