Hi guys,

I just wanted to know if you can give me a tip if there is a good free

screen recorder out there.

I tried some but when i started to record Truespace lagged as hell.

The recorder should record the full screen and maybe sound but thats not so important. I only want to work lag free while recording and have a nice video output

It would be cool if you could help me because i want to post some video tutorials.

Thanks a lot! All the best,

Replied to another thread saying this would be good to see, before reading this one.

I use Cam Studio, which is free.

For codecs, there is a screen cap one that comes with Cam Studio that works well, and there is also the Lagarith codec that you could download and use. There's the TechSmith codec too, but I think you need to purchase Camtasia to be able to encode with it, the free version is probably playback only.

You will always get significant frame rate reduction with any screen capture software, what might run at 30 to 60fps when you watch it will slow down to 4 or 5 fps or less with screen cap software. This is ok for a tutorial though, people can accept the reduced frame rate in a captured video. It's even ok for some walkthroughs etc, though of course it doesn't show of tS at its full capability!

You could also give tutorials in shared space, where people can watch modeling happen in real-time ;)

HTH!
