New user to 7.6. Old user to all versions before. Problem.
I try to load a dwg file as an object and get the "you need the conversion pack message, contact caligari??? I talked to customer service and they say no conversion pack is needed for 7.6. I work with importing dwg files. Help please. |

Apologies, you seem to have received some incorrect information there. DWG does require the Conversion Pack for tS to be able to load it and is not a format native to tS (as per the Specifications page for tS where you will see it is not listed as an input format, http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts75/Brochure/specification.asp?Cate=BSpecification )
Unfortunately, the Conversion Pack is no longer available so there is no direct method to get DWG into tS at present (are you sure they did not say that no conversion pack is available rather than no conversion pack is needed?). Alternatives might be OBJ, DXF or similar.

You can use 3D party tools such as Blender, Ultimate Unwrap 3D, etc., to convert various formats as needed. |

Actually you are correct. No conversion pack is available was the answer. Bummer. DWG is the format that all and I mean all of my architectural clients provide. I really like TrueSpace even paid for the 7.6 before it became free. Hmmm...should I learn SketchUp to stay within the same app for importing DWG? I didn':confused:t see DWG in the Blender menu Either.
You comments and suggestions are welcome |

The conversion pack was a good help for TS. I have the chance to buy it before they stop to sell the plugin. dwg convert work well with this plug. Type "free viewer dwg" on google. There are good soft and some can convert to dxf or other format supported by TS. I don't know why a lot of plugins for TS stopped since TS is free. May be they did not want to rewrite for the workspace or is it a coincidence . I keep preciously those i have. |

Ah, chatted with support and they said you had mentioned you may have the Conversion Pack purchased back when it was available. If that is the case, then no new one is required, and you can get the old one to install and can use that.
If you don't have the Conversion Pack, then looking for other software to convert is an option. If you have SketchUp Pro, it exports to OBJ, which can be loaded into tS, been doing tests on that lately, so you may not even need to track down other software.

When Conversion Pack was selling on Caligari store, only few people bought it. When it disappear from store many people want to buy it.
Samething happened with VRay for tS. :D |

Wow. Every architect I know has sketch up pro. TrueSpace is missing out on a big oppurtunity. TrueSpace is a dynamite program, and easy to learn. Caligari should seriously consider the CAD Format import. I wonder if it is some kind of a licensing issue? |
